Hayward/Cable area?

Wondering how things held up with warm up this past weekend? Got a big group headed up Wednesday/Thursday staying on the Chip Flowage. Looks cold for the weekend. Assuming icy corners and lube for slides will be minimal.

Sonsaditches is the best sled handle I have ever heard. I also would like a report for this area.

I was up there last weekend and the trails held up OK. In the woods, the base is fine but some area with full sun exposure will be a bit thin. I do think the groomers can clean that up though. 2-4" of snow would be huge to improve the trails and put more snow on the roads/fire roads. Overall I wouldn't expect perfect conditions but definitely ridable in my eyes. The trails went from perfect on Friday morning to just Ok on saturday. I would state the current overall conditions a 7 out of 10. Some may be better while others might be worse. Either way I feel fun can be had.

Given that you are staying on the Flowage I think you will be fine to ride this weekend. I plan on heading up again Thursday myself.

Thanks Grub! Being from Iowa, road ditches is where 90% of our riding happens....if it happens. Been very hit and miss here for quite a while.

If you guys are planning on riding across Lake Hayward, it is closed, the lake has opened up in spots. Plan accordingly if you are getting gas in town.

I heard that they had two sleds go in the water by the market place. That area never seems to freeze well.

Staying at Flat Creek this weekend, we've never been to Hayward before. Will the lake trail open with the cold weather this weekend? How hard is it to get around if we are heading north?

I haven't heard if they reopened the lake trail but I do know you can around the lake no problem to go North out of Hayward.

Hayward Lake is not the eighth wonder of the world. The quality of your stay in this area will not change one little bit if you never set foot on that slushy little slough.

Just got done riding the area for the past 3 days, our cabin is near the Big Chip. Trails are flat and hard, the lakes are rough near the stakes, you'll need to move away from the stakes to find any snow to lube the slides or cool down the exchangers. We received a dusting Tuesday night, temps are droppping tonight thru the weekend. Good luck riding thru town!

you could take trail 31 south and loop back around north.not much of a detour and usually nice trail.trail 31 is right next to your hotel.

Any new info on trail conditions, snowfall etc. around Cable? We will be heading up Thursday night and it's the ladies first time just curious if there's any areas we should stay away from. Thanks in advance!

Stayed in stone lake area just to south of Hayward.
Conditions south of Hayward good.we ventured north a bit towards moose lake and conditions pretty bad.will not hit that area until more snow.
Best riding would be to take trail 31 south towards birchwood.south of tuscobia trail has best conditions but after Wednesday who knows?
Also rode up towards Lco casino and that was bad!

We stayed on Lost Land Lake (which is slightly NE of Hayward) over the weekend and logged about 300 miles. In general, we rode north through Seeley, Cable, Clam Lake, then almost to Lake Superior. Then came back down 25(S) to Louis Landing, then back to Hayward. Overall, I would say the trails are fair. They could definitely use some more snow; some dirt and rocks here an there. Some sections had icy corners.
