heading west in the morning

Got the gear packed up and we are headed for Utah in the morning. Out to Beaver Creek Lodge in Logan Canyon. They got great snow over the weekend and are supposed to get dumped on Thurs-Sun which luckily enough corresponds with our visit. Taking my son with this time so hopefully there isn't too much carnage.

Yeah, we’ve been watching that also. Got the right gear and a guide so hopefully no issues.

The danger out there isn't going down anytime soon either. The best line I heard a few years back in a similar situation with poor snowpack base structure was something to the effect of "we are going to be dealing with elevated avalanche danger in our snowpack until the snow melts and we are drinking it from our faucets."

Absolutely TRUE FACT!

How was the trip elf?

It was excellent. snowed every day we were there. By our last day we were in meadows and slopes where the snow was over the hoods making first tracks all day long. It was probably my best day riding ever. Didn't get a lot of pictures, other than stucks, just because it was snowing all the time and just didn't want to pull out the camera much as you couldn't see much. We set off one small slide but overall our guides did a great job of keeping us in fresh snow and safe terrain. Couple of areas we have played at in past trips they kept us out of. I'll get some pictures up today if possible.
Be aware of your surroundings this year out west is the worst avalanche deaths since 1910. The snowpack has multiple layers of faceted snow down deep. Going Heli-skiing at the end of the month to Idaho, doubtful that they drop us on anything 40 degrees or steeper. Nothing wrong with ripping up deep meadows

Hey elf, Gotta ask if you could make a snowball out there. I was stationed at Utah St Univ in the early 80's, beautiful country, but the powder was so dry you couldn't pack a snowball. However, the skiing was incredible.

The snow we got while were there wasn't terribly wet but it was a little heavier that we expected. Not just fluff but it had some substance to it. When we came back through Logan the snow looked pretty heavy there.
