Thanks for everybody's input! This seems like such a big decision, going from closed face W/electric shield to this. I just don't want to regret it. Before the 509 goggles were mentioned, I was looking at them. Love their look! Having a hard time paying $30 more for them. Does anybody know if the lenses that come with them (Chrome W/yellow tint) can be used at night? Are they worth the extra cost?

Yes the chrome W/yellow tint can be used at night. Definitely worth the extra $30. Remember they come with a lifetime warranty, doo any of the other goggles doo that?

I just switched over myself for this year. I got a clx5n matrix helmet by HJC and then got 89XI Turbo goggles. These goggles came with a breath deflector that fits snug in the helmet to help deflect any breath from coming up into the mask. The lenses are light sensitive, which is great for me since I do both day and night riding. I stay plenty warm and don't worry about my mask fogging up (I can go from a day of riding and walk inside a warm house with my helmet on and my goggles will NOT fog). I spent about 275 for the whole deal, which I think is pretty good for what I got. If anything, I would say buy a cheaper helmet, but do not skimp on the goggles. One thing to make sure to do in order to stay a little warmer on the trails is to put a piece of tape over the air holes on the front of the mask in front of the mouth. This makes a world of difference between staying warm and wanting to go in because your face is cold.

Found this thread through a search. I'm considering making the switch to open face/goggles after 10yrs of the ski-doo modular helmet. That helmet has NEVER fogged (bonus). However, I've had the modular 2 for the past 2 yrs and this past trip noticed a lot of air in the helmet. So much so that the first zip out in the cold morning, my eyes were watering from the cold air blowing into my eyes. I don't remember this w/ my old modular, but whatever. It's there now.
I do 100% trail riding. Is the helmet/goggle setup warm enough? I realize when it's below zero, you might be a bit cold. But considering the airflow/cold I dealt with last weekend, I'm thinking it couldn't be worse. I saw the no-fog thing and that's not for me. I'm a tad claustrophobic (not sure how I've survived the aviator snorkel thing w/ the modular). I like the Klim balaclava I'm thinking- it looks like your standard bala. Is your face really not cold? Is the eye opening in the helmet pretty much taken up by the goggles w/ just a bit left that's covered w/ the wind proof bala to make it a non-issue? I'm just afraid to spend $200 on a setup and hate it and be forced to sell it on eBay for less than half of what I paid.

There's talk of fogging with goggles. How does that happen? I thought the fact that your breath is totally sealed off from your lenses would make that a non-issue.
So far it seems like the 89xi goggles are a hit. I see they make light sensitive ones. What exactly does that mean? You don't need a tint for the sunny days? I've enjoyed the flip down sunvisor in my modular on those sunny days. But don't want to mess w/ changing lenses and whatnot for day/night.
Also- the 509 goggles say 'chrome finish/yellow tint lense' What is that? It looks dark w/ the chrome finish. Can you wear those at night? Is it yellow tinted from the inside so it works for both day/night?
I'm thinking the snowmobile show next fall will be a good bet to talk to a dealer and try some stuff on- just looking for more input from someone who does mostly trail riding w/ this setup.
