Help - Extending track to 136" VS. taller lug 121" track

Snowman, did you buy the sled with the track on it? Also, did you buy it from a man that lives in Michigan?

Yes, I bought it from a guy that had it at his cabin in Tawas, 5 yrs ago. It was an "extra" sled he had. He was updating his sleds to new Ski-doo Rev's.

It was worth the drive from Northern Indiana, it had 628 original miles on it. One of those "barn finds" you hear about with old cars. Everything was original, track still had the rubber molding nipples on it! The track is still in good shape, clipped every 3rd. I just want to get more off trail traction so this is my project for next season.

For most bang for your buck, just do the track change. I have two sleds, both 98 Vmax 700's. One has the standard Yamaha 3/4" track, the other has the Yamaha optional 1.5" track and wider skis.

On trail which is about 90% of the time, there is no difference in hyfax wear. Much better on-trail traction both accelerating and braking with the taller track, will never go back to a short lug height track on future sleds.

Off trail, which is one weekend a year at the Ride-In, they are two completely different sleds. You will be completely amazed at how much difference the deeper track makes in deep snow traction. I am able to try hill climbs and deeper snow riding now that I wouldn't have even dreamed of before

Thanks... I wasn't sure if I would be wasting my money with just a taller lug 121". With the .88 lug track I just changed the hyfax for the first time ever (since new) this year, with about 4,300 miles on them! I may have gotten more out of them but I changed them when I was installing lighter rear springs and had the suspension out for inspection.

Don't really want to spend the extra $ on the extensions unless I can find a good deal on the parts. Going to keep my eyes open for good used stuff in the meantime, if I can get a good deal on tunnel and rail extensions I may go that route.

Anybody used a Camoplast Predator track? It is a similar lug style to my OEM stock track. A bar/paddle type design. It looks like it could be a good track also. I think my OEM track would do better if it was just taller.

Thanks for all the great opinions...nice to get other riders experiences.

The track I put on my 2000 MXZ was a predator track, I liked it. It hooked up well and off trail was good. It was a 1.25" lug.
