Help - need break in information for

I have a new Polaris 2019 switchback 600 and a new Polaris 2020 switchback 850 that i will be using for the first time this weekend

getting mixed signals on break in

one dealer did put oil in the fuel tank on the 600

the other dealer told me that they did not put oil in and that i did not not need to put oil in

the owners manual of both says put oil in but then it says to keep doing it for the first 4 hours on the 600 and 15 hours on the 850

my understanding is a quart for every 5 gallons

thanks for the advice

1 Qt to 5 gals is 20:1 ratio.

The ECM during break in hours for oil ratio is more already. I don't know exactly, but even if it averages 50:1, and you also add 20:1, that is ALOT of oil.

Remember you’re trying to break in wear parts so over lubrication delays that. There are many ways to break in injected 2s. Me on any engine I Break in by the book.

I'd do what the manual says - plugs are cheap.
Ditto, then again, I've never had an issue with fouling the plugs, nonetheless, that would be the worst case scenario. Far better than burning down. -Mezz

The 600 has a manual oil pump. The ECU cannot give the engine more oil during break in thus the need for the extra oil in the tank. I’d shoot for 50:1 premix. The 850 has an electronic oil pump that during break in period pumps extra oil for a certain amount of hours thus not needing any oil in the tank for break in. Your manual should spell this out. As far as running the pre mix in the gas tank for the 600 I would NOT run it for any longer than the first tank of fuel. All it’s doing is ensuring the oil pump is working properly and that the oil lines don’t have any air bubbles along with giving the engine internals a little extra lube to help break in/seal the pistons, rings, and bearings.

I have broken in two 800's (2016, 2020 ) with electronic oil pump. The dealer had me add a quart of oil to first tank both times. The 850 will get extra oil for 10 hours at RPM over 5500. If it was me I would add a quart of oil to first tank on both sleds.

I am not sure on the 600, but don’t add oil to the 850. There should have been a hang tag around the fuel tank neck on what to do
