It didn't take long for Rick Hendrick to shake up Hendrick Motorsports, even though Sunday brought a fifth Cup Series championship to Jimmie Johnson and a 10th to the organization.

Two days after the season came to a close in Florida, Hendrick Motorsports announced Tuesday afternoon it would shuffle the driver-crew chief pairings for drivers Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin.

We've made the right adjustments, and I'm excited to go racing with this lineup."

-- RICK HENDRICK Earnhardt's crew chief, Lance McGrew, moves over to the No. 5 team of Mark Martin; Steve Letarte moves from Jeff Gordon's No. 24 team to Earnhardt's No. 88 team; and Alan Gustafson becomes Gordon's crew chief after two years with Martin.

Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus, winners of five consecutive Cup championships, will remain paired. Johnson won six races in 2010; the other three Hendrick drivers were winless. Gordon made the Chase; Martin and Earnhardt did not.

In addition to the personnel moves, the cars of Gordon and Martin will be fielded out of the same facility, now known as the 5/24 shop. Earnhardt and Johnson will be in the 48/88 shop. Previously the 24 and 48 cars were built in the same building, and the 5 and 88 were together.

"This will improve us as an organization, across the board," Hendrick said. "We had a championship season [in 2010], but we weren't where we wanted and needed to be with all four teams. We've made the right adjustments, and I'm excited to go racing with this lineup."

As much as I believe JR is not a good driver, and not a smart enough driver, he aint going anywhere. Whether he stinks or not, he will always be a money maker.

If you want to watch REAL racing, go to your local track. Watch the guys that race with their heart.

Being a Jr fan I say YAY!!!! Hopefully this will help his motivation and drive, something that seems to have sorely lacked for a while now.

Nascar/Hendrick

Nascar is hurting for sure! Just look back 5-10 years ago, and you would never see an empty seat at any of the tracks. Now, they have to be careful when they televise the races because there are too many empty seats!
It's become too sterile and way too boring IMO. I think the 'good ol' days' are gone...

While I don't totally disagree with you I can sum up the majority of the problem in one single word. ECONOMY. It gets better and suddenly attendance will be back up too.

I agree. I still love watching but I am tired of 48 winning it all. It was much more exciting this year as it went down to the final few laps.

TOTALLY AGREE!!! Quit going to Nascar 2-3 times and year and now spend my $$ going to dirt tracks Friday and Saturday's all over the state!

Dirt or asphalt! Just get out there. Take you kids! Go into the pits after and get your kids picture taken in a race car. Sometimes drivers give away their trophys. Often drivers have autograph cards, candy, t-shirts.

Who's gonna be the next Matt Kenseth to come from the area? Go collect as many driver cards as you can. They might be worth some $$$ someday. Have your picture taken with a driver. Maybe that young gun will make it big someday, and you have a pic of you and him/her to show your buddies.
