Here We Go Again

Repeat another warm up. Water is dripping from my roof again, and it falls on my porch. Then in a day or two warm up is over and I have an icy mess. Wish we wouldn't have these warm ups till spring.

Looks like an early spring coming this year.

Yes and doesn't look like any favorable forecast in the near future either, this rollercoaster is getting very old and not favorable for anyone in the north woods and unfortunately will force riders to hunt for snow, making traffic in areas that do have it tough to maintain, my feet are getting tired from doing the snow dance. Hopefully this pattern will change soon

I simply can’t remember a winter where 5 days out from a storm it looks like snow and 1 day out it ends up being rain. The only reason this warm weather doesn’t bother me now is because we have zero snow to melt. It’s crazy because I have a trip planned for the week of the 21st and I’m actually worried the UP won’t have enough snow to ride. It’s no good having all the traffic concentrated in one area.

Ya we have a trip planned to grand marais mi on the 24th. I’m already researching for plans b and c and hoping the other guys in the group are willing to travel 12-14 hours if need be. I think they will.

I know and I hope that things can change daily but still no pink or purple on graphic map, even in long term

I’m guessing this year is just going to be a roller coaster. We will get some cold and snow and two days later it will be 45. A lost season for sure. It has given me a different perspective on buying a new sled, my 2017 will last a few more seasons for sure. We may have to head to Canada or back out to the Black Hills like we did 3 seasons ago when Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan had the big melt down.

I should be picking my days for riding wondering if a couple day wait will better than subzero rides. Instead I haven’t log 1 mile yet and continue to wait for more snow to fall with locals forecasting snow changing to rain over Vilas Sunday night/Monday then turning to rain all the way to CH Monday. Big thaw today and Saturday with El Niño totally entrenched now. I keep waiting for better but beginning to think it’s not going to happen even for Vilas forget about south of here just too dang warm!!

Talked with a good friend at Conover yesterday whitedust. He hasn't even started ice fishing yet. Said no good for sledding, just not enough "good" snow around him. Ice on lakes somewhat iffy. Calendar is progressing.

Abe ice fishing is a lake to lake right now some tricky conditions exist on some lakes with roller coaster temps and unexpected rain then covered with wet snow causes overflow type of conditions. I’m standing down due to thaw Friday and Saturday then snow/rain late Sunday/Monday. Idk what conditions will be mid next week nobody does lol. I don’t want to discourage anyone but to us locals this is considered marginal at best. If you have the itch you can certainly scratch it now but marginal not my thing.

I did get a ride in last Tuesday, we trailered up to Moose Lake in Minnesota and rode towards MacGregor. The whole area had plenty of snow, I would say 15-20” but it was really cold that day -13 when the ride started. It was good to get out and ride but the warm spell won’t help them either. Very frustrating I should be out riding and not posting on here.

I rode from my house in Iron River WI to Lake Namakagon yesterday, it was a high of 40. Less snow in Cable, Lake was fine. More snow north of Iron River. Trails were fine. They are logging on trail 15 south of Grandview, its plowed and not good. They are talking up to 8 inches Sunday into Monday, that'll help.

Correct. Northern Bayfield County has rideable snow even though below normal standards. My brother and 4-5 guests from Woodside Cotttages did 125 miles yesterday south to Iron river and in the Valhalla area. They are riding this morning as well. I'm on the shelf due to hand surgery.
