During the Sled Safe enforcement weekends, DNR conservation wardens conducted major snowmobile safety patrols across Wisconsin. Here’s the results;

  • Patrolled 3,658 miles of snowmobile trails in 34 counties
  • Made over 1,300 contacts with snowmobile riders
  • Issued more than 100 citations for safety violations
  • Gave over 300 warnings to riders
  • Made 3 arrests for operating while impaired (OWI)
  • Made 3 arrests related to drug use
  • Provided assistance to 21 snowmobilers in distress

  • Wisconsin snowmobile deaths have reached 10 so far this year, prompting state wildlife officials to renew their push for safer riding practices on snowmobile trails across the state.

Seems like a lot of people know how to snowmobile responsibly.
3 Impaired & 3 drug related out of 1300 contacts.... would be nice to be zero but I'll take 3 and 3, I have heard of a couple deaths but not 10, very unfortunate! thoughts and prayers to their families and loved ones

Its under .005%. Expecting zero of anything is false hope.

This has been the busiest snow season we have seen in a long time in the State of Wisconsin. Easier to be happy and focus on the positive than dwell on the the little negative. How about all the positive memories made this year with friends/Family. Christmas week actually having snow for kids to enjoy was a huge plus! That hasn't always been a given in past seasons. Or the record year many bars/restaurants/resorts are having after two challenging years. That will only help the Northwoods experience and the sport of snowmobiling.

I agree completely, please don't take what I put as a negative, was shocked and happy to see such a low number of impaired and as you stated been a record year, has been a few years coming, one of my biggest years of riding also with good memories and good friends, 2nd year of riding with my brother and hope for many more. I'm not focusing on the negative so please don't take it that way. Agree... the sport as a whole needed this, lets hope for a repeat next year and the year after that... the year after that and so on and so on, could be pivotal in restoring its footprint on businesses and manufacturers alike!
