You're a very rare individual to want to ride till 5 AM just to see great trails. That's obsession. I'd bet less than 2% would do that.
Not a chance in hail I'd do it, but to each their own.
We do it quite often when the trails look like that, and its not -25 out. It's best if the moon is bright. Ride all night, eat breakfast at cafe, go to bed.

Getting back to the original thread our local forecast is right in line with John's updated Wednesday forecast. We are supposed to get 2-4 with winds of 45mph. Then it is supposed to slide off to the east. Towards YOU GUYS!!!!! I am hoping for 8 inches at the Lakewoods where we will soon be. Hope it doesn't fall apart.

You guys are dedicated. I understand the appeal.
I'm too old to be awake at that time of night, but if I was 25-35, I'd consider it!

so i guess i have a different take on the no snow complaint..just go find it is how i see it..there is snow somewhere

This! I read the no snow complaints every year as well, and yet I somehow manage to put on 3k+ every season - not sure how that happens.....

u know pete..i had to come back to this cuz its buggin me..when i got into riding less than 10 years ago i had no money,,no good sleds..just the itch to ride..and when we got crap snow in MN..i took the crap sled on the trailer and just started working this way..i never heard of the kee or john dee..just did it to find the snow..

so i guess i have a different take on the no snow complaint..just go find it is how i see it..there is snow somewhere

Dan no need to be bugged we all started out the same way crappy sleds and chasing snow in multiple states...at least I did from the 80s till now. Very few places in WI and WUP I have not laid tracks over many years. I'm happy for ya that you are comfortable in Mass City for a month but way too confining for me an my buds. We could trailer to Mass but in that would only last a day for us then we would want to see and ride something different have a different experience. I did what you are doing out of White Pine for years in the 80s and 90s and I remember Pat's when the dealership was a 20x20 room just Yamaha. SC was a hub of activity with multiple motels restaurants and gas stations....same with Bergland. The groom was terrible but we managed to put 100+ miles a day on our crappy sleds put down a 6 pack and soak in the hot tub to do it all again the next day...lol.. wives and kids included. Now I live as far north as possible in Vilas so I can access the UP by trail or FR. For me and my buds with high tech 4s sleds we ride 200-300 miles a day start about 8 AM take a long lunch and ride home to finish at 5-6PM if possible....Yes we haul balls at times but not all day long. If there is something to see like an overlook or waterfall we will check it out. We don't need baby's butt smooth trails and in fact like some texture to the trail vs a fresh groom. I think you will evolve and get bored with what you are doing now but different strokes for different folks so have fun and enjoy.:)

All the Vilas local weather forecasts are right on to JDs frorecast and graphic for today. There will be some snow in Vilas with more west than east. 2-4 is the call and we need every flake. The snow will fall Thursday during the day so we shall see how the forecast works out...now we wait....

I got a better understanding of this storm or storms tonight....a wide band of 1-2 inch snowfall maybe 100 miles wide overall but the heavier snow band is only 50 miles wide within the larger band and that is only 4-6 inches total snowfall. So if the track varies by 25 miles the snow totals could be way off from the forecast. All about the track of this one and cuts Vilas in half east to west for the heavier snow. Better bet is west in Vilas but bottom line I'll be looking out the window on Thursday since suppose to snow all day. So far no rain at 7PM Wednesday and that is a good thing.

3:30 PM and radar has Phelps in the dreaded dry slot that has been coming and going all day. I would think snow totals are going to be all over the place with more northwest in Vilas. Best guess here is 2 inches of very wet snow followed by inch of powder and temps went from 33 to 24 in the last hour or so. I think we will prolly see another inch which will put us in the 2-4 forecast and we would be very lucky to get 5 total. This will be a very tricky snow to groom since the ground got very wet yesterday above freezing followed by freezing rain, wet snow and dry snow with temps dropping quickly. I don't think Forest County did well so far but radar showing another band moving northeast and then done. All in all about right for Phelps and I will give it time to be groomed and set up before I ride Friday. Sure hoping for better than fair to poor sick of those conditions and bound to be better... how much is the question?

We are riding and went from Minocqua to Sayner to Conover.....trails are very good. Hit some bumpy areas but not much. From Sayner to Conover was smooth as glass, grooming has been great. Very few sleds, heading to Waters meet later.
