Hoisting my sled(s) by the steering stem ???

I am constructing a storage loft in my garage, wondering if anyone has hoisted a REV XP chassis (2009 TNT 600 ETEC) by the steering stem (lifting entire sled from just under the handlebar clamp).

Same question for a Polaris Edge chassis (2002 XCSP 600).

I don't want to find out the hard way that the steering stem will bend under the full weight of the sled.

Thanks in advance for your help

I use triangulation of 3 lifting straps from front suspension arms and rear bumper all meeting about 2' above gas cap for point of lift. Steering stem is not engineered as lift point. The only time I would use the stem as lifting point will be to the put my sled in the dumpster.

Not a good plan ever been flying down the ditch and then have your bars atched to sled with nothing but the cabels. It happend to me and nota good fealing.I am sure it was from all the useing bars to get sled rolled over and what not when stuck

Actually, I do it all the time. I use a soft sling to wrap around the stem below the bar pivot location. I only lift high enough to get the frame rack slid underneath for service or frame repair. But I have had them hang there for quite a while before, never had any problems. Have done this to several different sleds, from all makes and years. Nothing I would stand under and test fate or anything though. The 3 point sling is your safest bet for a higher lift. upper a-arms and rear bumper, center as needed.

I suppose if you were trying to lift a R-1 ton, then no I wouldn't use the stem. Maybe a industrial crane or a sikorsky helicopter would work.

Sorry Yamaha guys, couldn't resist...
