How 'bout those Hawkeyes! Big 10 is back

Nice to see Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Penn State hold their own in the bowl games. None of the prognosticators believed they could win. Two big 10 teams win BCS games. Now we need to work on MSU, UMich, and UMinn.

Yep, good win for the Big 10! I'm a Badger fan myself but was rooting for the Big 10 throught the BCS games (except for Ohio State! LOL!). NW should of won too! One of these days we'll get more respect in both football and basketball!

I was even happy for OSU because their win makes Iowa look better.

Don't get me started about Iowa basketball. I guess they were tired of going to the NCAA tournament every year so they push Dr. Tom Davis out, bring in Steve Alford, let him mess it up, then let Likliter make them completely irrelevant. Nicely done. They even let one of our former football star's son (Bohannon) go play basketball at Wisconsin! Unbelievable!

Before you read my "name" below, I'll preface that I'm a Cyclone fan from Iowa. I watched last nights game with all Hawkeye fans and everyone asked themselves how in the world G.T. possibly could have been selected for that bowl game? They were terrible!! Seriously, their QB had 1 completion on the night for 11 yards?? I believe we could get some forum members together and give G.T. a game! However, the real question is...how does Iowa ALWAYS get these favorable bowl match-ups?? I would have loved to seen an Iowa vs. TCU, Iowa vs. Boise St. or an Iowa vs. Cincy game. G.T. was the bottom feeder of the BCS bowl selection, and it showed! But like they say..."you can only beat the team you're scheduled to play"! Good win for the hawks.

Loved seeing the Big10(11) play well in the bowls. Badgers taking care of Miami was sweet. Sad for Northwestern, their luck ran out at the end against Auburn.

Now lets see the Badgers take care of MSU tonight in B-ball!

Cyguy, thanks for the Hawkeye love, but I have to take issue with one of your points, "However, the real question is...how does Iowa ALWAYS get these favorable bowl match-ups??"

Here are their most recent bowl matchups.
09-10 Georgia Tech - Won 24-14
08-09 South Carolina - Won 31-10
07-08 Texas - Lost 24-26
06-05 Florida - Lost 31-34
05-04 LSU - Won 30-25
04-03 Florida - Won 37-17
03-02 USC - Lost 17-38

USC - Nat'l Champ 2003, 2004
Florida - Nat'l Champ 2006, 2008
LSU - Nat'l Champ 2003, 2007
Texas - Nat'l Champ 2005

I'll give you the Georgia Tech and South Carolina , but after that what more do you want?

Couldn't agree more with Eltrain1984. Great win for the Hawks & BigTen. I watched all the post game interviews & experts comments about the game & most agree that Iowa is one of the top 10 programs in the country year in & year out. I don't agree with Cyclone on his points because I watched a few GT games this year & once they establsihed the run in those games the QB hit for some big passes. The problem last night is Norm Parker(Defensive Cor.) had a month to prepare his defense against the option & Iowa shut it down. Living in Iowa & being a Hawk fan I also root for Iowa State when they play, having said that, Iowa State fans should only dream to be on the same level as the Hawks.

I'm still in mourning over Iowa kicking Dr Tom out. That was when I quit giving to the Hawks and told them so.

ERTL- I really don't think Iowa is a top ten program year in and year out. I figure them third if not fourth in the Big Ten(OSU, Penn St., and do you rank Wiscy and Michigan behind you?). Then we can go to USC, Florida, Texas, LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, and right on down the line if you want. Don't get me wrong, I am a Big Ten supporter(even Michigan) on certain situations. I do think Iowa has a nice program, but I don't think they are top ten year in and year out. This is meant to be a friendly rebuttal and not intended show you up or call you out...I could be wrong too. With this said, I have an Iowa sweatshirt I bought in 1997(I think that was the year) when OSU played at Iowa. The day started warm and sunny and I went to the game in a short sleeved shirt, by halftime the temp had to of dropped atleast 30 degrees and became windy. I paid good money for the sweatshirt(survival gear). The main thing that stuck out in that game to me was watching Antonio Winfield run down a Iowa guy from across the field on a breakaway run...I swear the man was shot out of a cannon! Oh yeah, the bar scene was nice.

Credit to Iowa, because I watched G. Tech this year off and on and thought they had a pretty good team.

I agree that the Hawks aren't a top ten team, but as one of the smallest Big 10 schools, coming from the state with the smallest population of all the Big 10 states, they've done one heck of a job maintaining a high level program. Who, in their right mind, would want to head to Iowa City to play football for four years. There's no reason they should have a better program than most of the rest of the conference.

PSU Guy

Being a PSU grad I have to tip my hats for Iowa's great season. I didn't give them much respect at the end of the season, being all the near misses they survived throughout the year. The defense absolutly shut down a really good option offense of GT. It's nice to see one of the smaller teams at least share a Big Ten title with Ohio State.

I have to agree though that they will not be a perennial favorite like Ohio State/Mich./PSU is. OSU was obviously the dominant team of the last decade. I think Penn State will continue to be a good team in the coming years because the coaching staff around Paterno is so good. Michigan will eventually get back to their winning ways but right now Jim Tressel runs the best ship in the big ten. (ouch it hurts to admit that)
