How do your 2-stroke exhaust (power) valves look?

Knowing how everyone loves a good oil-related topic...

So after this winter's riding season, and you have removed the power valves to clean them, how did they look for cleanliness? Mileage & brand/type of oil?

Here's 2 pics of mine, prior to cleaning, pulled out after 900 miles using Arctic Blue Synthetic Blend:

i clean mine every year and i use ams oil interceptor.... never really to bad. i just take the 20 minutes after every year and clean them and even do it during if i put on a lot of miles. i know mine never get that dirty with the interceptor oil.

Get some oven cleaner, and don't forget to wear latex gloves. I kinda sorta ruined my hands  I got every last bit of carbon off mine.

Don't you guys fully take them apart, I did mine this spring but I take the bellow off and the plastic cap, everything. If I don't need to I won't next time, I did find a tear in one of my bellows this year. So I'm kind of glad i did.

When cleaning the valve assembly, I will remove the plastic cover and inspect the bellows and spring.

The pictures I posted aren't in the best lighting, but I was surprised on how clean these were as the same valves weren't nearly as clean last spring with the same approx. mileage using Polaris oil for break-in, or my previous Polaris sleds with valves running Interceptor.

Thats pretty dirty for only 900 miles. I would be looking into if your burning too much oil or swapping brands. Hate to say it, but I can put on 1700 miles using Sea and snow and they look 10x better than that.

Just being honest..........

I am wondering if all this dirty valve issue isn't caused by a sled sitting around idling more so than a sled quickly warmed up and rode hard. My valves on the 755 RMK with 3000 miles on it look fine and never been cleaned. Using interceptor. My slides are 3000 miles old and are original and still has tons to go before down to the wear line. Sled has only seen deep snow for 2900 of those miles and I run scratchers down all the time? go figure on this wear / dirty issue. I suspect all oil is better than no oil and riding in snow is better than bare pavement as I have seen many of times. I suspect user error or neglect to be 99% of the issues we discuss in tech talk.

I had a 97 MXZ 670 and a 96 MXZ 583 awhile back. Both Ran Amsoil. I ran the 670 (6700 mile) and my Girl ran the 583 (1200 miles). Being her first yr it was driven very slowly. I ran the 670 Hard. End of the season I cleaned the Valves and the 670 was pretty clean but had some small crustys, and very dry. The 583 was coated in gunk. I suspect it was the lack of WOT pulls to clean her out. Now that she knows how to ride her valves stay much cleaner. And now that I stopped running Amsoil there is aolt less crud buildup and a nice oily coating on the valves.
