How far north?

Heading up next Wednesday the 20th, we usually go up to Ironwood but the less we have to drive the better, Im wondering about the Wausau area (Staying in Antigo possibly) or Tomohawk... Main concern is we want to go far enough north to get into the areas of good grooming and decent snow cover. We have never stayed in this area and we are wanting to make sure we dont regret stopping a few hours short of great trails. We were up in Ironwood a few weeks ago and no complaints at all, also with all the new snow in WI has the traffic spread out? Thanks.

Definitely plenty of snow from Tomahawk north, and with the storm tomorrow you may be able to go south of Tomahawk.

minocqua, st. Germain, Arbor Vitae is a great area and will likely be grooming nearly every night.

any suggestions on lodging, theres always 4 or 5 of us, after a day on the trails we settle into some good food and several beverages, so any help in that category would be helpful also. Talked to the group a second ago, I dont think we will stay any further south than Tomohawk.

It's fine south of Tomahawk. (Though some trails hadn't opened)..by this weekend...you will probably be able to ride from south of st point...plenty of snow out there.
I suggest, the super 8, center stone resort, twin bay (has cabins), the Americinn...or check with Dan and Mels (the old while away, I believe they have cabins, but not sure if they rent in winter)...also check with the garage.(located west of town on hwy 8..i believe, they have hotel rooms)
Too many good places to eat to list

Snow from Point north not the issue grooming is another matter. No traffic not down in Vilas was very heavy last weekend but UP from Michigamme to WI border was surprisingly light. We thought the cold kept people away but maybe not maybe it was snow south of Vilas difficult to know for sure.

Minocqua and north was fantastic yesterday and today, looks like Hurley with piles everywhere.
