How far over the WI border

$35 a piece is a little pricey for amount of riding we want to do and I don't think the rental place want us to put a WI sticker on their sled. I wonder if the rental place right on the border in Land O' has both MI and WI stcikers. THat has to be a hefty cost.
The water isn't fully open anyways from what I read. We'll see what happens.
Maybe next year we'll get hit with more snow and I'll have no problem buying both MI and WI. We've always stayed in Land O' in the past and 70-80 percent of the time rode in WI.

Depending where your renting from, there is a good chance the rental will have both MI and WI permits already on the snowmobile.

IMO, I wouldn't even chance it in the slightest. Buy the permit or don't ride there. Its the same as asking "How fast can you drive on the Interstate before you get a speeding ticket."

I kind of wish they a day pass, for a few bucks less, you could enjoy a few miles of the trails legally while still generating funds and avoiding fines. Better to $5 to $10 bucks out people instead of having them be scofflaws or refusing to cross the border to save the full price.... Just a thought....

WINDINDTRAILGAL- I see you have a place in MI. Do you belong to a club there or donate any of your time to help w/brushing,signing,grooming,etc? If you did you would understand how the people that actually do all the work feel about this topic. And by the way, none of us volunteer's receive any of your donations or trail pass monies - we do it because we want to give back to the sport we love. The majority of that money goes to maintainance of grooming equipment which is severely under-funded!

Every year for the last 2-3 years, I always run into a DNR checkpoint somewhere in central Vilas Cty.
One year it west and south of Boulder, another year it was a few miles west of Conover.
I wouldn't chance it.

I don't see the need for a p'ssing match over this. The guy was simply asking a question about what we fellow JD'ers thought. I gave him an opinion, you gave an opinion. Not sure why you feel as if you are somehow superior to me or anyone else. You have no idea what I contribute - be that time or money. You have no idea what the original poster gives in time or money. You can take your sanctimonious attitude elsewhere. You made your point and I think we all got it.

I'm not sure where your bitterness comes from. Maybe you SHOULDN'T be volunteering if what you're taking away from it is this kind of attitude.

Thanks for the bait...sorry I bit. Sometimes I have to stoop to even the level of an idiot who doesn't know me...I'll have to pull that hook outta my mouth now?! (sorry fellow JD'ers!?)

Whew...strong opinions here gang. I guess that's why I enjoy the U.P.! Kind of like "in your face", if you know what I mean. When does the third period start?

coldbear - it's just one bait monkey who likes the start crap about trail passes and what not.. Said the same thing about the Illinois trail passes. Didn't realize it was the same troll or I would have ignored and gone about my merry way.

I'm laughing to myself because, in my head? I've always thought you were cold beer! not cold BEAR! laughing! now THERE'S a crap stirrer thread??! :D

I LOVE it! You're from Oak Park IL and calling someone else a troll. As a born and bred Yooper I find that super funny as we call all the people below the Yoop, trolls (below the bridge). Or apple knockers, FIB's or FISHTAB's.:)

I'm not trying to start a pi88ing match, just thought it was a very, funny observation.

WTG-Sorry if i offended you but, when someone comes to the defense of another that doesn't feel they need to pay for the priviledge to ride the trails, i will chime in. And i will never lower myself to name-calling to get my point across. Hope you and your family have a safe and enjoyable riding season.

isn't it obvious?

Isn't obvious my dog in this fight is a beagle????:D

And I weighed in on this post on the first page. The trail enforcement is "around" in LOL, Conover & ER as I mentioned earlier. I see all the points here, but if he wants to chance a no trail permit ticket just to enjoy some crappy soup then that's his prerogative.

Just answer the OP's question would ya!

You can cross the border without a sticker with the "ski's" or your "track", but not both.
It's that simple.
