So how does a boondocker determine statute miles driven when most of the time he is stuck in a waste deep pile of snow with the track spinning?

Funny some of you have milage goals I'm just the opposite & try to hold back & keep a sled for 4-5 years to get decent trade in value. Even with Yam 4s people think 10k is starting to enter higher milage sled which is nothing for a Yamaha. I think people are starting to change their minds a bit on high milage 4s sleds as lots & lots of Yams now pushing 15-20K & running super good.

I figure for the price of new sleds you should ride them.....At least that's what i told the salesman i bought my '10 from after he told me he didn't want it on trade...

If theres snow ride as many miles as you can. IMO I'm not one to ride sparingly to save miles.

started riding winter of 62/63 on a Polaris with the engine(Kohler I believe) in the back, in 67 I got a Polaris Colt(13HP), it's still in the garage. Have been on many sleds over the years. In 1990 I started keeping track of each time I got gas & miles to the current date, will total them up sometime. Last year my total miles were in the neighborhood of 4600. I run a small rope tow ski hill in NE WI, that takes up my weekends and a day or two midweek with grooming. I have easy access to the trail from my house, so I'm out just about every day that I'm not at the ski hill. If not riding here, I'm either up in the UP(Mass/Greenland area), or Northern Bayfield County(Cornicopia/Herbster/Portwing/Valhalla forest roads).

Starting doing circles in the yard at age 3-4. If that counts, it puts me at around 32 years of ridding. Never heard of or rode a "trail" till around '99-2000. Did the trail riding thing for a year or two. Bought my first "new" sled in 2003. Between that one and my current sled I have a total of around 5000 miles. Lifetime? Maybe 10-15k at the most, but many, many hrs of operation and many smiles along the way!

Just a few more days to vote.

Uh-Oh, guess I better get my vote in and fess up that I'm not a high mileage guy. I put myself in the 10,000 - 25,000 mile category but that's only because of sheer riding longevity. In the early days there wasn't much for trails and I haven't ridden a lot of trail since '98'. I've had many days where it's taken 8 hours to chalk up 40 miles. Funny thing is, I think I'd be in the same category for stucks.

28 sledding seasons ago I purchased my first new sled (I was 22yo at the time) Since then I've averaged a solid 2,000 miles a year, so an easy 56,000 miles for that time period. Add in my teenage years and I'm in that 65,000 mile area. Most miles in a day was 347. Most miles in a season was 3,900. Least miles in a season was 1,300. Most miles on a sled is 10,000+ on my '03 zr900 (now my wifes sled after a new track, rails and drive shaft bearings)

Interesting thread <insert thumbs-up here>
