Update

I took the APEX to the dealer this morning. Got a call saying that the fuel tank is filled with a sandy sludge in the bottom. This is caused from the sled sitting for to long with old fuel and the fuel breaks down in the bottom of the tank. The sled did sit and has had about 5-10 miles put on it in the last 2 years. Well the dealer is investingating further but it looks like the sludge may have plugged the injectors because the fuel pressure is 10lbs higher than it should be. So, the dealer is removing everything, starting at the tank and ending at the fuel injectors, to clean everything out. Only after doing this will I know if I have to buy a fuel pump, fuel rail or something else that will not be cheap. If anything else comes up I will post again. Now after hearing this great news I am going into the garage and having a few beers. Merry Christmas all. Thanks for the input. I am starting think my buddies acronym for Yamaha makes sense..

Season to season is all I let my toys go before a fuel swap. The tank on my sled is topped off before storage and I dont bother with stabil (bullheaded I guess) unless I forsee not using it the next season. I emptied my pontoon boat gas into my truck this fall as I had topped it off last season but only used about 2 or 3 gallons this season and didnt want the fuel to varnish. Stabil might have been a better option at storage but I figured I would burn it up the next season. Thanks for posting the diagnosis and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

No diagnostic light for condition like this. Amazing it ran for 20 miles. Hopefully filters did their job and fix will not be too bad. I will have a beer tonight for you also. The quality of the fuel we have to buy nowadays cannot be understated. It has basically no shelf life.

I know you probably don't want to spend more but I would ask how much more to stick some plugs in it while they are there.

Yikes that is some BADDDD gas!! Never seen it get that bad but I never let it sit around more than 1 year either. Lucky you have a 4s sled. 2s would have melted down with that crap. Dealer will get sludge cleaned up & you will be good to go.

Dealer had wrong diagnoses

The dealer told me there was bad gas in the tank because the snowmobile sat for quite some time. They shined a flashlight down the tank and saw what looked like sludge and immediatly thought if must be bad fuel. Well they started taking everything apart and noticed a white sandy looking substance in the bottom of the tank. After further investigation, and a taste test from the mechanic, it was determined that it was SUGAR in the bottom of the tank. He said it was the worst he has ever seen. The mechanic thinks that the fuel tank filter did its job by not letting the sugar get into the fuel rail and damage any engine parts. He said he blew out the fuel lines and nothing came out.
I bought the sled from a friend who needed money fast because he was moving out of his longtime girlfriends house after a nasty break-up. So she must have wanted to give him a sweet send off by putting a 1 pound bag of sugar in the gas tank of the snowmobile. I called him and asked if his exgirlfriend would ever do this and he turned to her while I was on the phone and I heard her say in a condescending tone "No, never".
Well my "Sweet" ride should be ready to go early next week. Thanks again everyone.

Wow. Never heard of the 'sugar treatment' with a sled before. Rotten!

So.....if it is his "EX"....how was he able to ask her sitting next to him? Are they back together? He might want to put some locks on all his gas tanks!!!! Wow.

Glad to hear it's fixed, we were all wondering what was up with this one. :)

Oh yeah he is back with her. He lost his license so he doesn't have a vehicle to sabotage so she took it out on the snowmobile.

Hopefully it was her so it does not happen again to you. If she really didn't do it review a list of people that have a grudge towards you. Lock up sled & don't let anybody have access. Be safe guard your investment. Let us know how sugar coated Apex runs when cleaned up.

at the end of the season drain all your gas out and run her dry !! ive been doing this for years on all my sleds and never had a problem yet knock on wood a couple of my buds use stable but still end up getting carbs cleaned or running sea foam thew there sleds . enjoy and have a good one happy holidays to one and all !!

old fuel

running a sled till it dies does not entirely remove all the gas from the system. Invest a small amount of money in a bottle of stabil and put it into your tank at the end of the season. disclaimer- doesn't remove sugar.

Well I got the sled back from the dealer and ran it up north. Top speed of 70mph. It was really boggy when I hit the gas and was starving for gas wide open. It went back on the trailer and back to the dealership. They told me 2 fuel injectors were clogged and the fuel pump still had some sugar in it. They were suppose to check all of this out before I got it back. So now they said they would do the labor for free as long as I buy 2 new injectors and a new fuel pump..
