I haven't seen many posts from this area, so here is our experience from a New Years Eve ride. We had been out for a couple short rides prior to this as trails just open on the 29th and had heard a few conflicting reports. We ended up doing about 105 miles, heading Northwest out to Cedar, Wi. (Frontier Bar), then later South from Pence, which is about 6 miles west of Hurley. Trails 77, 6 & 2 were all groomed & great out to the Frontier, a little connector right before the grade was ungroomed, but very rideable. On the return trip, I decided to take 6 further west towards Upson, it had not been groomed yet at all, but not to bad as there had been almost no other sleds on it yet. Once back to Pence, we decided to go south to Island Lake (Bear Chasers). We took 13 to 11A to 15 there and 15 to 8 to 13 back, all were in very good condition. We never went south of Isalnd Lake as I heard that's where it started getting dicey. We had been out on some shorter rides to day before and that was fine as well. Routes and destinations are definitely limited right now, there was just enough cover to make it work on the trails we hit. All in all, we had a great ride & the kids loved it. One of the pics is at the intersection of Trails 6 & 2 & the other looking down 6 halfway between the same intersection & Upson.

Great pix! And thank you for posting pix that actually fit my fairly large 24-inch monitor (or re-sizing before posting) without my having to resize each one. It's much appreciated.

I have to wonder what's the point to so many grossly over-sized pictures I find posted here, it just makes viewing even the text a pain in the "corporeal sitting-down apparatus" what with all the back and forth horizontal scrolling it requires.

Wasn't there once an enforced maximum size limitation for images posted here (except for clickable thumbnails)? Perhaps many folks just don't know how to resize 'em to something more suitable. <sigh!>

</sigh!>

I post from the forum runner app and the pics are big. Does that create a problem for viewing?

Here's my buddy Jerry

I'm not entirely sure Forum Runner is the culprit, and it's a fairly trivial issue, but a bit like a dripping faucet.

All I really have to do is right-click on each pic and choose [Zoom Image | Image Fit] from the resulting (click →) pop-up menu, using the (click →) Image Zoom add-on for the Firefox browser, but that's for each and every over-size picture in the thread. It's either that, or constantly scrolling the window left and right for the entire thread just to read the text, 'cuz the width of the text is affected by the window's width being "stretched" by the wide pix as well.

It would be best, of course if the forum software had the "intelligence" to either automatically resize any images "larger than a breadbox", or turn them into clickable thumbnails. Even neater if each user could choose their own "breadbox" size, via their settings, as for time-zones. (Good luck with all that! ;))

There are some days when I almost consider fetchin' my software smashin' spurs from the back of the closet and getting back in the business. But I really, really don't want a 'nuther career. I was too much of a perfectionist and wouldn't settle for any quick hacks, resulting in many 16-18 hour workdays, and a few 24-hours plus; going to bed was usually futile, as I'd just lie there thinking through the problem/solution anyway. :rolleyes:

I have the greatest admiration for the mechanical skills of some folks like those on this site doing all the great sled restoring magic. When it comes to "mechanicals", I'm all thumbs and utterly helpless, but I have almost always been able to tweak and bend software to my will.

P.S.: That Image Zoom add-on is also handy for rotating those occasional crosswise or upside-down pix as well.

Thank You for pointing this out. Its a major pain in the bazit to scroll back n forth to read a thread once someone posted an oversized picture of snow and trees like all other snow and trees

Seems like I saw it for sale one of the past two summers, I am sad to see them closed also.

The owner that also bar tendered seemed like a swell guy to most and would "have one" with you if you were there long enough. He had a beard and I seem to remember his name as Terry.

Yep, that was the owner, Danny. We frequented often also being right down the road. It was already closed when I went up for Thanksgiving. Word is, he walked away and moved back to Elgin, IL.

Another popular spot which closed is the Yukon II by Pine Lake.

Yes, as mentioned by teamblue, most trails were thin but ridable. For us, the trails were so good from the 29th to the miday of the 31st is most likely due to we saw 6 other sleds in about 200 miles of riding. On our way in the afternoon of the 31st, my daughter on the back of my sled counted sleds we passed on Trail 77 between Joanies and Squeaks, 29 in that 4-5 mile stretch.
