I haven't seen many posts from this area, so here is our experience from a New Years Eve ride. We had been out for a couple short rides prior to this as trails just open on the 29th and had heard a few conflicting reports. We ended up doing about 105 miles, heading Northwest out to Cedar, Wi. (Frontier Bar), then later South from Pence, which is about 6 miles west of Hurley. Trails 77, 6 & 2 were all groomed & great out to the Frontier, a little connector right before the grade was ungroomed, but very rideable. On the return trip, I decided to take 6 further west towards Upson, it had not been groomed yet at all, but not to bad as there had been almost no other sleds on it yet. Once back to Pence, we decided to go south to Island Lake (Bear Chasers). We took 13 to 11A to 15 there and 15 to 8 to 13 back, all were in very good condition. We never went south of Isalnd Lake as I heard that's where it started getting dicey. We had been out on some shorter rides to day before and that was fine as well. Routes and destinations are definitely limited right now, there was just enough cover to make it work on the trails we hit. All in all, we had a great ride & the kids loved it. One of the pics is at the intersection of Trails 6 & 2 & the other looking down 6 halfway between the same intersection & Upson.
