so much for trails opening up in cwd zones in wisconsin.the dnr has gun hunting until january 9th.i would like to know where all these deer are.i have 15 acres bordering the rome wildlife marsh and have yet to see a deer within 2 miles of here.the only place i see deer or roadkill is near cities where hunting is not allowed.i will be out opening weekend only because of tradition, not my hope of seeing one.too many years with earn a buck will ruin the herd.you show me a study that shows one thing and i'll show you a study that says the exact opposite.too many people make dicisions with there emotions and not with their heads.rant off.i feel better.good luck to all hunters this week

I hope this isn't true. I will be BEYOND PISSED if we get a couple of good snows in Dec, and can't ride because there will be 2 guys out deer hunting!

upon further investigation,i was mistaken, dec 24 thru jan 9 is archery. i don't see very many people bowhunting that late unless winter starts off poorly here.

Seems like Northern WI is looking at Dec 12-13 for opening trails. Took the grandkids sleddin in the yard today & only heard 1 shot from the woods. The hunters are out there with nice white snow back ground but not a lot of shooting going on can only mean NOT many deer out there. In the meantime we wait for more snow & deer hunting to be over. Our lake froze up fast last night so things starting to line up right on schedule. Have not seen the sun in over 7 days so all the snow sticks around & has been below freezing for a few days & teens at night.

Seems every year there's a more than a couple landowners in each county that bowhunt in mid december when the trails open, so we gotta stay off. Keeps you from going certain directions that you want to go. I also was outside all day cleaning the garage/making a coat rack for my mom/putting up xmas lights/cleaning out some junk i hide on the side of my shed and heard 1 stinkin shot.

What is a " cwd zone " ? Just curious.

"CWD": It's the fancy term that the WDNR has tagged WI with in our deer herd. It's a brain disease that is said to spread through the herd with contact at feed areas and such. It basically makes the deer starve to death. I believe the disease is definitely real, but personally, I believe CWD has been here for many years, as well as out west, but our lovely DNR has decided that the hunters need to "eradicate" the herd to stop the spread of the disease. They came up with "hot spots" in the state that they have found the disease, so they created "CWD ZONES". This is a hot topic among hunters that has spurred all sorts of silly short seasons to get guys out there hunting more often to do the eradicating. It is responsible for most of the additional short seasons. My opinion is that the insurance companies are fed up with paying out for car/deer crashes, and they are in cahootz with the WDNR to minimize the problem.....just some thoughts.
