This is quite insane.

Not only have we not seen anything remotely close to accumulating snow in Calumet - I actually have yet to even see more than some slushy flakes that lasted perhaps 5 minutes.

And it's almost November.

And, if the GFS is to be believed...things aren't looking good for anything anytime soon.

But yeah...one thing I notice up here is that the people seem to love their climate far more than any other place I've ever been. Even the veterinarian was going on about it for 5 minutes to me.

Well... System snow supposed to fly tonight in northern WI already seeing blue on radar over Vilas. It will be nice to see the white flying around but the last thing we need is lots of wet on trails that will not freeze. Wet trails has been a huge problem in the past & it has been a very wet year. I would like to see lots of cold then snow.

Tread lightly, your feelings may just end up on the other end of the spectrum by the end of December! Patience is a virtue here, for all seasons & reasons. Look at it this way, you can't ride the sled until firearms deer season is over any way, so if you resign yourself to December first. You will find yourself with a lot less anxiety, unless of course, IF it doesn't snow until Christmas, then you will be climbing the walls! LOL! It can be a real emotional roller coaster ride, if you let it....-Mezz

I have riden many years legally during hunting season.....just an FYI...heres from the Michigan handbook...Wisconsin same...Indiana too...from 11am to 2pm...also....all nite long after like the sun goes down

Just an FYI, trails are not open prior to Dec 1st. furthermore, many parts of the trail here are privately owned & are not open to sled traffic. It is smart to be courteous by staying stay out of the hunting grounds. You can use a sled to get to & from your stand or camp during the time stipulated, that's it.-Mezz

Even though you are use to cold and snow, coming from northern Maine. Once it starts up there on the Keweenaw, and it snows every day for a while, with a couple heavy snowstorms included. And your shoveling everyday and its getting hard to throw the snow over the bank without it rolling back down onto the sidewalk or drive your trying to clear.
You'll still be whining =) just a different tune LOL
You'll love it once it starts
You won't be disappointed it will be all you thought it'd be. Just have a little patience.
Also if it snows too early and the swamps don't freeze before a blanket of snow insulates the ground. Makes for poor riding conditions like 2 years ago. Early November snow. Issues with grooming and poor trail conditions for many weeks

see the yellow area....see the yellow box....you can sled anytime of the year from hunting season till june on public lands....public....like I stated above...theres a yellow box also that explains from when to when....but its june 1st....been there...done that......many times.......glad your in the dark aboot this... it leaves me so much more space to run in untouched MEZZ....tank you.....LOL

1st week of Nov looks delightful in the WI northwoods sunny and mid 50s. JD said cold flip could be late in Nov and I'm ok with that. Every weather source is forecasting an average cold & snowy winter or colder and increased snow so I can wait winter will get here always does always will.

No riding in the Anchorage, AK region either. Very little snow at elevation in the mountains yet which is unusual per the natives. Even in a "warm" year.

We have not had a hard frost here yet, today, mostly cloudy, 55 & getting windy. It is suppose to be the warmer through the week-end. I'm ok with the warmer extended fall. The leaves were slow to turn & slow to fall, now it's clean up time. Hopefully we'll have enough time to git-r-dunn before the weather turns. I have a feeling once it does, there is no turning back for a while.-Mezz
