I also have never seen that. Horrible. Temps for the next 8 days for me are highs near 40.... BOOOOOOOOO!!

Seriously though. I cannot remember ever producing a map like that, but I bet we have had 5 day periods where it did not snow, even though I forecasted it! :eek:

Despite this map and my seasonal outlook, I can all but promise there will still be some fireworks this season. Hang in there!

I know but my USAF son is coming home on leave Dec. 10th and we have a trip planned for Dec. 11-13 and also on my B-day (12-23).

Me, myself and I can deal with no snow..just like the many years it's happened. BUT with my son coming home (it's been almost a year since we've seen him) I was sure hoping for some riding time with him!

Please Snow Gods and Heikki Lunta?

How about the updated winter outlook from TWC published 11/27. Strongest El Nino in 18 years predicted to peak this winter.

And 18 years ago the Twin Cities had 72" of snow, 25" above average.

1998 will go down as the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] warmest year since 1891. The warmest year was 1931. The winter of 1997-1998 was one of the warmest on record. "Meteorological winter" is often defined by climatologists as the months of December, January, and February. Minnesota experienced unusually mild temperatures in each of these months. The statewide average temperature for December, 1997 was 23.6 degrees F, which is 10.8 degrees above normal. January's average temperature was a mild 14.0, above normal by 7.1 degrees. The month of February was extraordinarily warm, averaging 28.0 degrees, exceeding the normal by 14.9 degrees. The temperature for the 1997-1998 meteorological winter (December - February) averaged 22.6 statewide, which makes places it second only to 1877-1878. The winter of 1877-1878 is far and away the warmest Minnesota winter of the post-settlement era.
As the result of the warm temperatures and light snowfall, many areas of Minnesota reported little or no snow cover by late February. Northern Minnesota communities like International Falls and Hibbing reported a trace of snow on the ground in late February. Historically, late February is the point of the winter season when the maximum snow depth is reached.

I agree we have been warmer than average, which is obvious so far, but you just never know is my point.

I totally agree. This might not be the best year to plan trips. However, make plans to drop everything and ride as much as you can where you can when it dumps.

Totally agree with the ride when you can!

My calendar is already scattered with PTO, so fingers crossed! Heck, nothing less than 3 hours on the trailer for me last year, so anything closer will be a bonus!

Don't you all worry so much. All the world's fearless leaders have boarded private jets and are in Paris as we speak to put a stop to all this climate change, or if nothing else, get some tax revenue out of it.

Depressing for sure! I hope it's like two years ago, where there wasn't a lot of snow in da yoop in December, but then January came, and BOOM, it snowed until may!

So which was it -96-97 or 97 - 98? In the spring of '97 we had huge floods because of all the snow that season. The dike in Grand Forks broke and flooded half the town. I still remember putting in butt-time on my snowblowing tractor every day in January in '97. The snow was over 10 feet high inside the tree rows on my farmstead. It took until May to melt all of it.
 
FYI, 1997-98 was the last strong el nino.

If you want the snow summary of all the winters I can remember for central and northern Minnesota, my memory goes back to 1995-96.

Here it goes

1995-96 Very Cold, not a ton of snow but cold to keep it around.
1996-97 Not generally that cold but lots of snow. Grand Forks flooding
1997-98 Terrible
1998-99 Terrible
1999-00 Terrible, I remember hearing lawnmowers running the first week of March in central MN
2000-01 Good Winter. Above avg snow with below avg temps overall. January was warm but no big thaws.
2001-02 Terrible, lots of March snow that went to waste as it melted quickly
2002-03 Terrible
2003-04 Ok, but nothing that sticks in my mind
2004-05 Late start to winter, Feb and on was a roller coaster temp wise. MN north shore had an excellent year.
2005-06 Slow start then warmth until end of Jan, Feb and March were good the further north you were.
2006-07 Generally terrible, but did have two good storms end of Feb and beginning of March. Melted quickly afterwards though.
2007-08 Meh, it seemed good coming off of 06-07 but was still below average probably.
2008-09 Solidly good to very good snow year
2009-10 Late start, only a couple snowstorms all year, avg at best, overall. Southern MN got all the snow this year.
2010-11 Really good year better than 08-09, I was trail riding Dec 1 in 12"+.
2011-12 Terrible, year without a winter
2012-13 Was rivaling 11-12 for a non-winter until mid Jan, then it snowed, and snowed and snowed...
2013-14 Epic! Maybe even to cold to enjoy the excellent snow a few times.
2014-15 One step above Terrible? Better than 97-98 and 11-12 at least.
