Drove me Crazy

Most 4 pin connecters use the white to ground to the metal trailer frame leaving 3 wires to run the lights - with the trailer frame supplying the ground. Sounds like you have a seperate ground wire running to each light? Anyway, if you are satisfied grounding is good then you may have to make the plunge and investigate the "hidden wiring" by pulling it back or out.
I had a similar problem - really goofy and never the same. Difficult to narrow down. I used jumper wires (not battery jumper cables) and my ohm meter to check for ground. I dug in determined and found a portion of the 3 wire ribbon cable rubbed bare to copper in the frame. I never did get my two side running lites on. I gave up on those.

I do understand what you are trying explain. You have three wires going to each side of the trailer, left side and right side. They would be white, brown, and yellow or green. Your white wire goes directly into each bulb connection and nothing is tied to trailer metal. That also means that you have six wires going into your 4 pin trailer plug. 1-yellow, 1-green, 2-browns(one from each side), and 2- whites(one from each side). This makes your system easy to check. If you know the truck is good then you only have the trailer connector, wire harness (6 wires), and the light connection and bulb.

Ground Wires!!

wel..... i have been tearing my hair out on this trailer. its a triton 2 place trailer and when i hit the brakes all trailer lights go out.when i hit the left turn signal the right signal blinks on the trailer and vise bersa for the right turn signal. also all of a sudden the yellow side marker lights start blinking when turning the signals on. i put a new end on it and checked my truck( ive pulled this trailer severalk times with the samne truck). i took it across town to power wash it quick to clean it too work on. on the way home everything worked fine out of no were. backed it in and it startted doing it all over agian. i know its a ground problem but everything is enclosed. pulling it apart looks like a pain in the as$. better off buying a new harness???? also noticed that there is no ground to trailer itself. my car trailer has just reguler 4 wires. this has 6 for a 4 pronge connector

TIPS PLEASE
You need to add a few ground wires. Buy a cheap test light and use it in reverse, put the clip to a hot on the trailer plug of your truck then touch the trailer. If you don't get the test light to light you don't have a ground. Test before and after the tilt bolt as it may not be working to complete a ground and you will have to add a new ground between the tongue and deck. This is why the water worked as a ground. your lights are using themselves as a ground. Happy Trials

Deerhunter,
You say that your wire harness is the same as the newer Triton trailers. If that is the case you should have a 4 wire connector under the trailer right at the end of the tongue. This connector splices the trailer wiring with the wires that connect to the truck. Did you check this connector? If not you might want to look at that connection. The reason I say this is I was working on putting lights on my cover this weekend and when I went to pull this connector apart one of the pins was so corroded it pulled apart.

i fixed it. i didnt buy a new harness for 138 dollars. bought new trailer wire and all new connections from autoparts store and shrinked wrapped all connects. its was time consuming but i spend 35 dollars for wire and connections and saved my self 103 dollars. also my wood deck is under warrenty. gotta love it now have a little over 100 dollars in a aluminuim trailer i bought 13 years ago and now its like new. and there guys on here telling me to dump it off somewere for the next guy to deal with it. sorry im not made of money

thanks everyone for there help. triton trailers did say any trailer after 96 has a lifetime warrenty on there wood decks under normal wear and tear. go to there website and email them your vin number and theyll let you know if under warrenty.

Grounding issue

Ground problem may not be in the trailer at all, could be a problem with the tow vehicle. Had a trail one time that wokred on every one elses vehicle, but not mine. Turned out to be an issue with my truck. Had to run the ground from the trailer plug directly to the frame of the truck, then all was good.
