Wish I could have made it out with you guys! Did Les get the Kawi conversion working? The Hawks are a blast in the correct conditions and I am sure a bike kit would be equally as fun!

Greg, what is the corect conditions for a hawk, IYO?

Hawks work great on the trail as long as there is a bit of loose snow and you are not hitting ground under your base or POW... When it gets deep its amazing! However it takes a bit more snow to get into the bush as only 1 ski to stop it from plunging deep into the snow! With no base you can start to tag stumps and logs when not on the gas! Stuff that is not wide enough to get into and sidehill on a sled is fair game! Like the ditches you could almost could play on and the small roads that sleds went down the middle and now there is no room to play! On a Hawk you can still ride the freshies on the sides!!! Put on 40 miles a few weeks back and my buddy on an M only got to play about half the time! The two Hawks were playing to and from the truck as well as everywhere we went... Condition were perfect!!! Someone on here may have seen us on trail 1 between White Pine and Bergland! A Hawk on each side of the trail having a blast and the M watching as he went down the trail...

I do still miss my sled though! Just don't want to give up the Hawk!

Check this one out. Just skip the first couple minutes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSClxpnuT00

Greg, Cooke was great. Been there ten time's know and 3 time's where with the Hawk. This was the best trip by far. Snowed everyday that we were there, almost a foot of Fresh every day.

Those Sno Scoot's are a riot. Rode one once and tried to pick one up at hayday's for the last 2 year's and they hold there value very well. Did not find one under 1300 buck's.

Les, and his bike kit did very very well in the mountain's. Timbersled and Les rode together for a bit with some hawk's, The bike's rocked just as hard. They hold there own just fine.

I'm heading out on sunday morning for a day ride with a bunch of 2 ski buddie's. My hawk is running super. Been Clocked over 90mph. on a flat hard packed trail. But would not want to go any faster.

What set up are you running to get 90? I am stock clutching and gearing and can pull 75 with 2ndary at A6. Looking for some lake effect this coming week! I may be able to get the Hawk out again!

it took a month to build and test it enough to ride it more than 100yrds rode it all weekend, love it!! the hardest part for the 125 is getting it moving. in soft snow it works kinda hard but on hard pack it does 50 in 5th gear reved out. in the soft snow you can maybe get mid 5th out of it tho.. my favorite part is sidehilling check out the vid. this hill was about 60 degrees, I went across it 4 or 5 times and the only time it even slipped a little was when the camera was rolling and there were all my tracks I was going over.

Nice work, I have a 450 xc in the garage just begging for a kit.... so are you going to share what you learned? We looked at building one and finding the right suspension/drivetrain geometry seemed to be the biggest hurdle in everything.....

I just used the same size gears as the timbersled mountain horse, they have tons of info on their site . I just guessed on the suspension and it seems to be good so far. I made a similar suspension the the mountain tamer and m-10 style set ups.

one tip is to build a seriously strong ski mount, it might break off when you jump it:( and 1/8" tunnel sides are NOT strong enough. AND 520 chain will not work on steel farm implement sprockets, but 530 will. loctite is your friend!

Greg, Running the stock power bloc, and a AC secondary red/white spring and a 46 str8 helix. With the chain drive conversion, 530 chain. You will have to wait till I get to my hawk for the chain gearing. Pod's.

AC 2ndary and chain drive I think is the answer. You are much more open to different gear ratio's! I bet you get much better mileage than I...

so snowbike update. it is the most fun I have ever had, hands down! not very good mpg but it is a 125 and has to work kinda hard, and runs pretty high rpm. it is 8mpg or so. last weekend I was jumping it and the ski mount broke and the entire ski broke off, but no worries no one got hurt, now I have a much stronger design for a mount. went about 15 miles today, I honest had riding ditches on a sled, but on a bike it is soooooo fun, you never have to ride up on the road just stay down on the steep side hill. we had some snow and wind last night so there is deep big drifts. it was a riot bustin them up. when i got it stuck I hit a 5 ft drift in 1st gear and didnt have the momentum/power to get through it. a big bike could have done it but the 125 just doesnt have the lowend torque. oh and hit 53.5 mph too. the bike does that with wheels!

all in all the most fun I have had on a sled or a bike ever, cant wait till tomorrow :)

update! rode about 40 miles yesterday, icy bare dirt trails are suicide, but ditches are more fun then ever. from a full tank till u run out of gas is 23.5 miles (2gal) about 12mpg. way too much fun, I would like to get out one more time before the snow is gone, one more dump please! rode crossings can be interesting, just go straight and ur fine, dont try to turn
