I just visited irs.gov and let me tell you thats a mind boggling experience. Worse yet just having to click and scroll up, down and back and forth page after page and read all the print on a screen.
I'll just print forms and order my paper instructions. Doing individual tax really is not that difficult. I just hate doing it.
Used to be make so much and owe so much. Now make nothing and get my credits and refunds. At least MI hasnt cut mailing forms/booklets.

Because CPAs make mistakes, that someone like me doing my own won't make. No one cares as much about my finances as I do. My taxes are "complicated" as I own a few businesses etc...I used a CPA once and never will again. $1700 later I ended up redoing everything myself and saved $30k in taxes and no I didn't cheat.

Sounds like that CPA you hired must have had some mental "issues" to miss that much, or maybe he was just bad at math.

No doubt. Find a good one and keep him. Back in the day when I was first starting out I could do my own. Then life got real complicated As time went by.

Everyone has a different situation. I am sure some folks have a relatively simple situation. I did too when I was younger. I have employees and I don't ever want to cause them any grief because I screwed up something on my end that resulted in problems for them. Sometimes when you get on a list it is hard to get off the list if you know what I mean. Plus there are certain petroleum company rental revenue stocks that are complete hairballs to figure out. I have enough work to do just keeping 30 employees from killing each other. My accountant does all my bill paying and tax prep. And it is all a business expense. To me it is a no-brainer.

No doubt! I married a cost accountant, she does a great job with the day to day stuff. My job is to keep the customers and worker "Bees" smiling and selling the "Sizzle " .

'Sell the sizzle, not the steak'. Best advice for any sales person, next is 'If it is legal, moral and ethical and it make sense, sign here'

OK did turbo tax. And best part both state and fed were FREE. Actually was easy **

I have been using Tax Act for over 10 years. Many bookkeepers and accountants use the same or similar software to do your taxes but up charge the customer dramatically. Easy to use and it makes you more aware of your yearly finances because you are doing the data entry.
