I had a property inspection to do out in Little Traverse. This is along the east shore of Lake Superior in Houghton County. Beautiful sunny day, but near the lake, a tad cool at 54f though the water temp was not too bad, at least to a depth of 6" LOL:rolleyes:. I'm beginning to wonder if the ice on the lake will melt before the Laurium Glacier???-Mezz Little Traverse Bay 5-28-2014 (1).jpg Little Traverse Bay 5-28-2014 (4).jpg

The ice bergs in the bay, near L'ance were very impressive over the weekend. Some as bis as a VW blowing on shore. 85deg with ice on the beach was neat to see. We took a ride about 25miles into the woods east of L'ance at a very high elevation ,and couldn't be leave how much ice was out there.

I heard on the radio today some climatologist is saying the largest "iceberg" is not expected to completely melt until sometime in July.

I had heard that the Coast Guard had declared the lake to be "ice free" 2 day's ago. Then I read the last 2 posts & I asked myself, are these guys misinformed? Just for grins I went to the GLCFS site & low & behold, there appears to be ice near the Bayfield Peninsula & it does appear to be a pretty large chunk or collective chunks massed together, nonetheless, amazing for this time of year. This just confirms just how cold & how long that cold persisted for us this winter. Amazing! -Mezz http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/glcfs-ice.php?lake=s&type=F&hr=01
