If you are heading north to ride......

Temper your excitement....it's BAD...lots and lots of tree damage, many trails not open, and wet areas in the usual spots. Spread the word if you can...a lot of people don't realize the extent of the damage in the western U.P., and northern Wisconsin...and some folks see SNOW, and just hook up the trailers and head north...it's not going to be that simple this year, which will upset some folks who "just want to ride"....The clubs are doing what they can and are asking for Volunteers to help clear trails. (check with the club where you ride to see if you can help, and when, as some of them have set up work days...don't just go out and start cutting trees with out permission from the clubs)...keep in mind there is still hunting going on it some zones in northern Wisconsin.

The bad areas are in a line from around Lac du flambeau, east to Eagle River and everything north of there.

The problem was that this was a heavy, wet snow, 30 to 40 inches in some places (more to the north, less to the south..for example Lac du flambeau had 13 inches, Minocqua had 5)...it was not your typical fluffy lake effect. AND ...The swampy areas in northern Wisconsin never really froze, and now have all that snow on top of it, so it's insulating it from freezing up...they will freeze up once they get packed, but it's going to take time. It's actually a good thing for my area that the snow didn't really hit here (3-5 inches)....Minocqua, Rhinelander, Tomahawk ETC... It's starting to freeze up nicely in the swampy areas, and Lakes here....so that is one good thing.

I just had a couple buddies up in the yoop (Bruce Crossing area) and they spent hours clearing trees, just to ride....it's going to take weeks before some areas will be open, and safe to ride...It took one club 4 hours to clear 4 miles of trails

Again...not trying to be the turd in the punch bowl...but many areas, even with all the snow are just not safe to ride......one club up there told me it would be a miracle if they had everything cleared, groomed, and ready to go by Xmas

Attakman good to hear from you we have been talking about all the damage on what gives. I personally am hoping to get up and help the Cruisers since they are my primary club. Was going to maybe help Barnstormers but now that Jerry from the Cruisers is talking about going out Saturday that is where I am leaning on going. He also stated very nicely on his FB post. We appreciate all the thank you but what we really need is help. I think that pretty much sums it up for all the clubs to the north. Also looks like Sawyer county and out that way got hit hard. Speaking of Sawyer county did anybody see that f250 with tracks to groom the trails. That's a nice looking rig. I wonder how good it works.

Well here is what you will be trying to ride through of you come to Watersmeet. We had 4 different crews out with excavators today and each one made it about 3-5 miles each. With 70 miles of trail to cover it is going to take a while. 1667628724346054898.jpeg IMG_0694.jpeg IMG_0691.jpeg

The clubs are working hard here in Twin Lakes
The Bill Nichols trail 3 is all cleaned up and the Krupps crew were working hard on trail 109 heading to Alston
It’s bad and I’m not sure how far they got but I was alble to get a ride in today on trail 3 and it was fantastic
I wish I could help clear with everyone but having ALS has taken my legs almost fully now, I can manage only a few steps with walking sticks or a walker but I’m still getting after it while I can
I’m pretty dang blessed to still being able to ride my sleds

Paul and Tyler from Boondock Inn/Mosquito have been out the last 3 days as well cutting and clearing, lots of sore muscles. Thanks again for all your support so we are able to ride!
Oh yeah us woodcutters understand how hard this work is not for out of shape people. One can only do so much and you burn out so stay hydrated. For me I did well in cold temps kept my heart rate down usually ended up with just a poly undershirt and a thick turtleneck with firehose lined pants. Coat ended up hanging on tree branch. 😁

Keweenaw Snowmobile Club has been busy & remain busy opening trails. As they clear them they are being packed only, no grooming yet, they will begin grooming once fully cleared & when we get some more snow. There are a number of trails that remain gated, particularly those that are on private property, some closed for hunting & some due to logging. See the clubs Facebook page for complete update.

How much snow did Minocqua get the past week? Do you think my driveway needs plowing in Minocqua.....heading up next weekend.
4 To 6 inches...my mom had 9 out near Lac du flambeau (she always gets more over there)...we are expecting some smaller systems over the next 5 days an inch or so here and there, but it does add up (an inch possible Friday night, 1-3 both Monday night, and Tuesday night)

Alot of people are calling and asking about the conditions in the YOOP (mostly our southern friends)...they have no clue what they are heading into...I tell them to bring a saw, and they ask "WHY"? ...they have no clue, or they think I'm lying I guess......I mean it's all over Facebook, pictures from just about every club trying to clear down trees...they don't care...they are heading north to ride...gonna be some very disappointed people this weekend...be ready for the snow Karen's whining about it Monday....all these people heard was "Fresh Snow...30 to 40 inches in the YOOP"...never mind the tree damage or the open water holes...smh

How about Snogoers getting a 113 people to show up clear the trails. That's awesome. We helped cruiser and we only had 10% of what they had. Too bad all clubs couldn't get that many people to show up for brushing trails. I will say the trees are beautiful up here rite now with the flocking of snow on them. We are going out tomorrow for a short time to hit a different trail. Tomorrow we will take the sleds to brush PXL_20251206_162231039.jpg PXL_20251206_154236861.jpg
