A group of Whiteside, Bureau Co., Illinois riders set out this morning, -11, on their sleds for destination Eagle River, WI. Find, and follow them on Face Book. Jim Leone from Leone's Polaris, and a very good friend of mine are 2 of the riders. Tech guru Chad Colby, hopefully providing pics and vids, will meet up with them in route. Wish them luck, as they want to hit ER tomorrow. Fast mail, eh!

350 by car so must be 500 by sled at least. Hope you give us the mileage when done. You'll also be in ER for the World Series snowmobile races this weekend.

It looked like Chad mapped it out via Polaris Ride Command and it showed 450 (448 or something like that to be exact). I'll be real curious to see how close the actual mileage comes to the mapped out version. I guess Chad was actually leaving from Leone's Polaris in Peru, Illinois and meeting up with the rest of the group, who was leaving from Prophetstown, Illinois (Abe's stomping grounds).

Pretty cool trip, I will be following along.

Awesome! I try to do a trip like that every year, but the snow doesn't always cooperate. You guys in southern Sconnie and IL have gotten most of the snow this year, good for you!

Yes, that is what I was told. Chad was leaving from Leone's business and riding the Hennepin to somehow re join up with them? He better hope he knows a short cut, I know how hard those others ride. Perhaps catch them where ever they land for the night? 2 days to ER will be a haul on trails no matter the miles. I've been told Ride Command is usually somewhat short as to the actual miles? Sled speedo's not really accurate either. Chad will have Actual GPS mileage.

Very cool to be able to do that. It will be interesting to hear the condition reports in central WI. Map shows 2-12" there depending where you go. Local forecast in Green Bay for next Tuesday is 38 degrees with full sun. That will wipe us out in eastern Brown Co. and parts of central WI. Too early for that but not uncommon.

Sounds like a lot of fun, and hope I can make that same trip one year. Its not often to have decent snow all the way up.

I'm guessing they'll meet up wherever they stop for the night. I thought I saw the Prophetstown group was leaving at 7am and Chad was leaving at 8am. So not only was Chad spotting them 50 miles but also and hour of time.

All of these sound like really awesome adventures! I have a cabin just south of Fifield, WI and have dreamed about riding from my normal residence to the cabin. Maybe one day I will make it happen.

Yep. They were to leave Bill's shop at 7am. However they maybe were a bit later than that leaving due to the colder temps than were figured on?

No idea of their route but driving from southern WI to UP Monday Wausau looked lean. Hopefully all countries are open. I’m sure they must have scratchers because they’re going to need them to avoid overheating and lube hyfax. Just the way of things on a long trip like that in shallow snow and road trails. Best of luck and hope for the best on an adventure like that!

My wife just told me they lodged just north of Wis Dells. Chad lodged 30 miles in the rear, south of the Dells. All went well, no problems, all good! Yep, they are hauling the mail for sure! However, they have probably now passed the best of the snow and trail conditions.

You can go to Chad's FB page and see his updates. He posted quite a few pictures and did a live video update this morning prior to taking off. He's leaving earlier than the other group to catch them.

Our club Pres. and some others rode from Richmond IL.to Copper harbor. That was some years ago . The trips were done more than once, unfortunately for me I didn't get in on it because of my work.Trip was made before cell phones and digital maps. Everything was planned out by phone calls and talking to club leaders along the route. Stories are in past issues of Illinois snowmobiler
