Our club Pres. and some others rode from Richmond IL.to Copper harbor. That was some years ago . The trips were done more than once, unfortunately for me I didn't get in on it because of my work.Trip was made before cell phones and digital maps. Everything was planned out by phone calls and talking to club leaders along the route. Stories are in past issues of Illinois snowmobiler

I hear all of that. Some NW Il riders did that also. Much more seat of the pants fun back then. As the high tech, GPS takes a lot of the effort out of it. Kind of a shame, eh!

I'd love to do a trip like that. I was going g to do from Illinois border through WI, the UP, across the bridge to the Michigan/Indiana border but never quite had the snow conditions for it.
I have a friend who's Dad rode with 2 buddies from near Buffalo NY who rode from there to Coon Rapids MN and back in the late 90's. Think they did it in 8 days. My buddy worked at Yamaha at the time so they did a quick service for them and they headed back.

I wanted to ride with the guys who went from the Soo to Alaska. I think they rode for the Diabetes Foundation. Forgot the year, maybe 11-12, but there were three groups. Evidently they came through my town in ND. Missed the first group but did travel with the 2nd and third for about 40 miles. DNR in ND did a special groom for them. Groomed about 20 miles of ditches so they didn't have to go 100 miles out of their way going west. Also thought is was nice that the DNR escorted them across the state.

I didn't hear about that, till after the fact.
Would have loved to get in on that. A once in a lifetime event.
The Soo is my hometown, which kinda adds to the cool factor.

The year was 2010 Rev, myself and two others happened to be riding from Grand Forks to Lake Metegoshe on a Friday and figured we would have to ditch bang from Langdon to Rock Lake but the ditch was freshly groomed, we made the first tracks on it. It was fun with no stop signs or any other signs. We did talk to quite a few of the riders at Twin Oaks restaurant that night and they were having a blast, they all loved riding in ND

Ya, I lived in Langdon for 17 years. I also worked for a friend when I could down your way, Weinlaeder Seed.

It appears that the Poo 650 went right at 16 mpg for Chad on this ride. Our SDI Doo's very close to being the same.
