Indy Trail floods while riding on trailer

I have a 1998 Indy trail. After trailering it for 8 hours when we arrived it was flooded. after letting it set over night we got it started after many pulls. This happened on the way back home also. It also happened when I had the back end lifted up for a couple hours while working on it. What is allowing this to happen or should I just shut off the fuel in these situations. Help

turn the gas off, idk if u have a gas turnoff but i had a 94 indy classic touring 500 ages ago and it always flooded when i trailered it and it didnt' have a gas turnoff so i added one

Most older polaris sleds had this problem. Just shut off the fuel when trailering and working on it.

Think about it, the trailer is bouncing around and so are the floats in the carbs, shut the gas off.

And if you ask why it doesn't happen on the trails, the engine is running sucking gas from the carbs.

Had a '79 SRX on a jack stand for a week, when I went to pull the rope, it wouldn't move. Bottom end filled with gas, had to make a float adjustment.

While it is a good idea to shut off fuel while trailering always, you also have a bad needle and seat in your carb. while a new one may leak when trailering over bumps, it will not leak on the stand for 2 hrs. I stored my older carbed sleds higher in the back all summer many times, and have forgotten to shut fuel valve, but no leaks. throw in a new needle and seat, and you'll be good to go.

Good idea to check the needle & seat. To test the carbs you can use a leak guage and pump it up to 5#'s pressure. The carbs should hold pressure indefinetly. If you end up filling your case with gas, upon starting you can hydro lock the crank. If you pull it then you could twist your crank out of phase ( OUCH ). I just went through this with my 2 yr old Pol.

lol when i was a lil youngster. that was one of the sleds i rode on the back of. first sled i rode on was 90 indy 440, then 93 indy trail 2up converted, then 94 indy 500 classic touring, then 01 sport touring 550, then 99 indy 500, then 99 xc 700, then 99 xc sp 700. seems like a lot of sleds in my 14.9 years of life.

and btw i have driven all these. i never had a 120, when i was 4 i went straight to the 90 indy 440 and out of all those sleds, the 93 indy trail, 99 indy 500, and 99 xc 700 are/were mine

Wow, you are lucky, my first sled as a kid was a Johnson. Then a bunch of John Deeres, and then a 87 polaris 400(what a cadillac), and then many polaris after that.
