NO NO NO speed limits. If its too fast you are too slow. Ever wonder why everyone slower than you is an idiot and everyone faster is a maniac. If you want speed limits go to Canada or out east. I don't care how slow or fast you are going, removing bridge ahead signs is ridiculous
Speed limits? Just don't know but WI 55 night time SL did not bother me as I slow down at night anyway. If 35mph SL was passed on Twistys I think you would have huge traffic jams too slow for me. Not sure SL would help in anyway & I don't like the idea but open to discussion.

I only bet on sure things and I bet we will see speed limit signs next. Deaths may increase due to lack of signs and the state will say speed was a factor and signs will go up garanteed. The drinking blame part gets played down since the state makes money on booze, but look out if you have been drinking because drunks are good fine money and sure bet for the state.
Just remembered, I think MN is 50 mph and a lot of people do not like it.
But it has been that way a long time already. You just learn to cope, whether we like it or not.

doesn't matter, saves lives (in theory). Ontario's 35 mph speed limit is to protect Ontario from law suits. has nothing to do with your safety. Same as the sign issue has here. If twenty- thousand curves have signs and one don't (because it got knocked down or stolen for someones man cave) and a riders blows the corner and is killed then the riders family sues for improper signage or signage in consistantly maintained or whatever trumped up charge the starving lawyers come up with and it goes to jury, guess what, we all pay. How do you think the state pays for anything???? Tax dollars. The state does not get to print money. It is hard enough keeping trails we have as it is. Ricky Racer is a known enemy of the trail system more so than loud pipes. Families are afraid to hit the trails because of them. If we don't police ourselves the state will do it for us.
Anyone who is riding based on the signs is going to have problems. You HAVE to ride based on what you can SEE with your eyes, sign or no sign. Bottom line, anything more is too fast.
Yeah, I like to squeeze the flipper with the best of them, but you aren't going to catch me looking for a sign to base my decision on when to slow down. That's just moronic.

We don't need someone "holding our hand" telling us what to do or pointing out every twist & turn on the trail.
Don't need to tell us how fast or slow to ride either-this still is America, land of the Free??

i live and ride in mn, also also ride the UP. in mn the speed limit is a joke, but it is coming to a state near u soon. we ditch ride so it doesnt affect us too much here. we stay off the state enforced trails, ride at night, stay off the enforced lakes and just avoid enforcement. we ride hard and fast, but safe. we stay on the trail and trail edges, off the private land so we dont lose trails and just ride smart. just cuz the govment says its so doesnt mean its right, as we all kno. its up to us to police ourselves. in madison last week a whole quadrant was shut down cuz of the few idiots that are ruining this sport. how many "stay on the trail signs can we post"..***holes will do what ***holes do no matter what we try and do as a club or organization. i am sick of seeing tresspassing tracks through fields..i love trails..love speed..love hard turns..but does it take rockiet science to not speed through the trees? just slow down and enjoy the woods..and when it opens up..rip it to ****!!!!

I would not consider myself or my father rebels or trouble makers of any sort. Actually we are both kinda boring compared to most.
But based on the stories my father told me about some of the things they did when he was younger and nobody batted an eye. And some of the things I did in my youth and things were also ignored, would be considered either illegal or not politically correct these days.
So to answer your question, we ARE losing more and more rights and freedoms every day.

In general I agree but one needs to take into consideration all rider skill levels and knowledge of an area. Weather can also be a big factor and a curve or stop sign ahead is certainly welcome by me on a dark snowy windy night.Anyone who is riding based on the signs is going to have problems. I read this entire thread and now my head hurts....
I understand the curbing lawsuits, not sure I agree with removing signage to achieve the result.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.... I believe the majority of us have been sitting on the ends of our seats for too long due to inadequate conditions.

It seems to me that in our sue-happy society, lawsuits will be there regardless.....if there is a dangerous spot that somebody deems should have a sign but doesn't, lawsuit. If there is a spot that had a sign before and now doesn't, lawsuit. Can't win. Kinda like the "Beware of Dog" signs. If you don't have one and your dog bites somebody, you get sued. If you put up the sign to warn people and they get bitten, you get sued for harboring a vicious animal.
Definitely been sitting here too long because of inadequate conditions!

SL would change the sled market as well. Would not need anything more than 340 liquid or ACE to maintain 55 mph SL. 440 would be overkill mad HP.lol
yeap one reason I dont ride here in Mn and started looking more to Wis way back in the day......never been in trouble in all the years I been on a sled till 04 when me and a friend both had brand new cat 600 and a doo 600 and we raced thru the corn fields outside town"on a 4 wide clear open field trail" we got a few fields from where we raced and to our suprise we where being blocked in at an intersection like we robbed a bank....BAM...seems the dnr waved at us from side of field cuz we where "what looked like speeding to dnr" at that pont they called sheriff and local police we are fleeing acording to them "really never seen them on side of field NO LIE"
there ya go thats what 50mph speed limits get ya.....I will only ride here if its a huge storm and I can go ditch bang all the huge drifts as the police are too busy to f with sledders but soon as the sun comes out they are in full force here
