I was a little ticked this morning to find out that all federal employee's had a nice paid vacation at our expense. If I were employed by the Federal Government, I would be a bit sheepish about accepting my pay from the last two weeks.

Yeah, yeah...I know, they didn't have anything to do with it, but then when construction crews have a day off because it rains, they go home without pay, and about a gazillion other workers get time off without pay because that is the way it is.

So we shut down the government for 2 weeks and pay everyone to stay home?? Is this generous benefit going to be repeated in February? Looks like the flight booking companies will be racking up the flight logs over that time period to sunny destinations so Federal employees can have a nice break again.

Hey....go ahead....one at a time!! I'm ready...let me have it!

Hard to argue with you. They get all of the benefits of being a federal employee, such as higher pay than same jobs in private sector plus great benefits, so they should also suffer the effects the one time they have a problem. They knew what they were getting when they signed up, and it's mostly on the credit side of the ledger! Not to mention it's almost impossible to get fired from a government job.

So what exactly was the shutdown for? Did the democrats not get their way on just about everything anyway? It appears the democrats maybe care more than the elected GOP??

Not trying to get into a political debate, just wondering what the GOP was trying to do since it appears they got nothing done anyway.

All the GOP got was an agreement to maybe talk about budgeting sometime in the future. And an agreement to double-check the income of a sample of those receiving subsidiaries for Obamacare. Huge waste of time.

That shouldnt' be a surprise - the demands were the same as always - Dems wanted a blank check, GOP had no idea what they wanted other than to get in the way a little. Obama cleaned their clock, again. The GOP needs to get out of the way and let the Obamacare trainwreck unfold on its own.

Oh, great....now I feel much better.

I hate to cross the political line here but I think it is time that we citizens that pay taxes, take back the country by putting far more issues to public vote than we have in the past. Deficit spending, credit card health care, gays in the military, migration reform...etc and yes, even should furloughed workers get back pay or half pay instead.

By-pass the legislature on important issues.

Oh, and if any voter out there can't name the 3 branches of government, then they should be denied the right to vote. Too stupid to vote.... Period

What was accomplished?

Federal Employees got a 2 week paid vacation. That's it. I'm sure they are already booking their trips for the two weeks they will get in February.

I don't know that much can be done to change what happens, other than a complete and total election defeat of EVERYONE that is currently there. Vote every single one of them out, and start again. Too bad that's not reality.

I do agree somewhat with original post. But,,,
We have a good friend that was forced to move before this whole mess. The office he worked in was closed and the only options were much higher priced cities.(Still hard to believe they closed locations) His first day on the job with the new location was Sept. 30, which is almost ironic. Worked one day and then was shut out from the office.

Looking for a place in an expensive city is no easy task when you do not have income.

The whole budget process seems flawed. Why do we shut down and waste so much time when the deal will happen? Our politicians seem to love being politicians too much.

There is no way most of us could do this in our real lives.

OK, the frustration is done for a few months. I still have to make my budgets work today.

I agree, the voters must make them pay with their jobs but I doubt there will be a high turn over rate in Congress. Too much gerrymandering, money and political swag to make a big difference. I will be looking into new candidates next election.

Excellent point. You should have to at least know the basics. Just think where this country could be if you had to take a VERY BASIC test before being able to vote. I can tell you who WOULDN'T be president right now.

basic test like breathe, or read, write, speak the language, any 2 would have done it

that is because the majority of the GOP are nothing but big government libs 3/4 of them sabotaged any deal before it was made.
oh well Obama won and America lost again just the way progressives on the left and right like it

just follow the constitution to the letter
yeah I know the progressives see it as just a outdated document that just gets in the way.
we have allowed the crooks to circumvent our founding documents with BS appointed activist judges and just plane brazen disrespect to the law.

the sad thing is 80% of the people in this country have no idea what is going on .
just look around all it takes is a marketing program and a complacent media to put the most unqualified person in any room to run the country . not 1 time but 2.

all u need is a blank screen for people to project there feelings on to and some one with no problem spewing bold faced lies.

and now that the propaganda laws reversed It is fun to watch the bold faced lies and watch the so called journalist's running cover for the propaganda .

I heard that some of the federal employees may also get some unemployment benefits along with the back pay and 1% raise.
