Can I just vent for a moment? I go back and forth between facebook and John Dee. Most of the people on facebook do nothing but whine about the weather. I love coming on here and seeing everyone get excited like I do when they see snow in the forecast. People ask how I can snowmobile since I am usually cold all the time. They don't believe me that if you have the right gear, you can actually get hot snowmobiling!

One of the things i have done for myself after a few years of off trail riding is switch to all Klim gear because i sweat so much riding. Klim breaths very well and helps keep my dry while i am out getting "cold"

Well spoken. I can't imagine a better way to spend my time during winter.

Hey mikes99ss, I am investing in a new base layer this winter(Xmas gift). I sweat profusely. The only time I get cold, is when I am soaked with sweat. I currently wear a polyester top and it works fairly well. I would like to hear more about your opinions of Klim, and your recommendations.

Those are probably the same people that bitch in the summer when it's 90 out, cant ever make them happy. Tell them what I tell them, if you dont like the snow MOVE out of my way so I can enjoy it, or I tell them it's going to snow (nothing they can do about it) so you might as well enjoy it too so go and buy a sled and let's ride.

Any type of proper layering helps a lot. It is all about wicking the moisture away from the skin. I have tried a ton of different brand clothing and OEM gear. The Gore Tex water resistance is amazing. There are different levels of Gore Tex and I would suggest buying one main high end component as you can afford it. The stuff is expensive for the better shell material, but water will run right off. The Klim gear is not as warm as some other brands, it takes a few layers to get the warmth. They do have one line(Klimate) that does have an extra layer of insulation built into the outer shell. I like using the unisulated shell lines so that I can just take off layers when the temps go high.

Another advantage of their gear is the venting system. You can open vents in the front, armpits, and the back. Just remember to close those front vents when you are in the heavy snowfall/powder. They will fill up with snow.

We rode in super powder on the last trip. I was dry and my gear was dry. One of the riders in our group had five year old OEM bibs. Those bibs gained about 30 pounds of water and snow during that day. The rider was soaked.

Wife always cold

My wife is always cold as well, but loves to snowmobile. The gear is the trick. She logs in 2000 miles a year.

Discussion point # 1: The folks that complain about the cold weather and snow all the time are RE-DI-CU-LO-US around the Mid-West. I agree with you all. Great company here!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Point # 2: Watch out when you buy OEM type outer shells that say they are “just as good as Gore-Tex”. They’ll typically lose their “water-proofness” after a season or two and then they’re as good as pair of old cotton gym socks for keeping you dry.
I have gone trough a ton of outdoor jackets and pants/bibs for Waterfowl Hunting, Deer Hunting and Snowmobiling. NOTHING has beat outerwear made from Gore-Tex brand fabric. It take many, many years if use and abuse to get this fabric to “wet out”.
Klim jackets / pants / bibs & gloves, while pricey, are worth it IMHO.
I layer with synthetics (poly propylene and fleece) items I’ve acquired over the years from hunting & snowmobiling. One specific under layer brand has never been better than the other, just different fit and finish I’ve found. Spend good money on the outer layers at least.

X2 techsledder. Klim, fleece and polypropylene for base layer can not be beat. Polyproylene can also be found in light to heavy thicknesses.

I am also a sweating machine. I used to wear just a t-shirt with sweatshirt and then my regular heavy jacket . My back would always be wet and cold. Now I wear polypropylene long underwear, fleece pants and shirt, sometimes a fleece vest (depending on how cold it is) and over it all is Klim pants and a Klim jacket. I stay warm in all conditions, never get to hot or sweaty, and always stay dry.

catgirl: A beautiful day or night is a raging snow storm wind & about 25 degrees F & a log on the fire listening to my fav tunes on my boz speakers rocking out watching the stuff fall. For me nothing better than that & been that way since I was a kid. I have my deck lights set up so I can see snow coming down or blowing sideways for full effect. I have been known to stay up all night pull up the recliner just to watch the snow fall. Now that is a fun time.

catgirl, back on to that topic. I love to grill during heavy snowstorms. It is the most peaceful time outdoors. I live in a city and there is very little piece or quiet most of the time. A good snowstorm fixes all that. It's great to come in from the grill covered in fresh snow carrying a steaming steak.

I also love to be up North and wake up to tons of fresh new snow. Nothing better. Many nights, it is hard to sleep if they are talking about a chance of real snow. Keep waking up and looking outside just to see if it has started. I'm smiling just thinking about that.

I quit shaving in the winter and grow a yeti coat of hair down my back side to keep me warm, plus the chicks dig it.

love winter

catgirl, I also enjoy winter and my co workers seem to get a kick out of how happy I am when they are complaining about snow. My class and I do a little dance of joy every time it snows, and enjoy teasing my coworkers about the wonderful weather. For me thats part of the fun of winter, just like talking smack about sleds or sports. I don't frequent facebook, and it sounds like for good reason, so I'll just stay with this group who enjoys the same things I do, and not waste my time with whiners. I also really enjoy introducing others to this sport, and have several friends now who ride because I took them out and showed them the reasons I love this sport, (the views, enjoying nature, and most of all, the friendliness of fellow riders.)
