I would like to add a disclaimer to my above statement.
I am in no way, shape or form trying to discredit John or the continuous hard work and dedication he puts into this site. Johndee.com is one of the most valuable tools a snow lover can have in his "toolbox". I would not know about or frequent half the amount of businesses I do, were it not for this site. Not only is Johndee the best snowmobiling website, I would go so far as to say its the best website on the Internet, period!

Good recovery!? :)

That's what I was saying too...I don't attribute the UP surge to JD - they kinda went hand in hand...it's a snow factor for many, an increase in the sport in general...JD just helps us all along. The internet/cameras/info have just helped us all make decisions...JD is just the place I trust and feels like my 'net home.

Yes he is good for business and inspiring people to move here which is what they need and want. .It was John's website that inspired me to research the UP and take the family on a 412 mile road trip to camp at the Porcupine Mountains, loved it. I would point out things on his site and say Honey look! We should get out of Illinois and move north! Who cares about the Union money! I was inspired by his love for the UP and eventually moved there.

I love riding both northern Wisconsin and the UP. Hard to beat the twistys and grooming in northern wis when they have snow. But yeah I use this site and others to find info. This site is the first stop for me.

John Dee site is also good for friendships. I am not going to "candy coat" or blow smoke up anyones rear. John don't need anyone kissing up to him. But this site does fit a need. Before John there was "Jeffs" web site and hundreds of us were directed here when Jeff had enough.. This site is amongst my favorites for it's web cams, the sincerity of the members, friendships I have made (including Skylar) lol and the enforcement of rules to keep it family friendly. Okay I am trying not to get mushy.

That's well said PR1, I will go to HCS once in a while but almost exclusively hang out here. Don't have to file through all the riff raff. Way less BS and constant bashing of people and their thoughts/ideas. I love me some John Dee!

No doubt this site sends people to the U.P., but the "Pure Michigan" advertising campaign is spending twice as much as Wisconsin on tourism promotion.

And what is wrong with that? We are a vacation destination. You think Door county, the Dells, Milwaukee and its attractions aren't steadily fed to us also via print and TV ads.
The "Pure Michigan" campaign seems to be working in IL. on any given Sunday evening there are thousands of them heading home southbound US31 and US131.

There is nothing wrong with that, it is a good thing. My point is the state of MI is spending tens of millions of dollars on tourist advertising, this is what is driving folks to the U.P. I do also believe that this site is responsible for some additional traffic also, but the masses are coming from increased state advertising.

I ran a B&B in Door County, so I know about the masses of travelers here, locals don't like it, but it is great for the local economy.

While we debate which website or advertising brings sledders to the UP, there's only one "Make-A-Wish Ride-In" in the Keweenaw, and I know for a fact that's bringing a bunch of us there for at least that weekend. It won't be just the snow that we'll be enjoying either. We'll be enjoying time with friends that we met through this site.
