I had an C5-7 ACDF done 8 weeks ago. Getting new xrays soon to see the fusion progress. Wondering if anyone here has any experience regarding my time out? I know the weight of the helmet and jarring will be an issue with my bones trying to fuse. I eat very clean, bodybuilder type diet, high protien etc. I'm very carefull and have been a gym rat my entire life. Which has caused so many injuries. This one was a major one. Thanks in advance. nsashbl01 at the Y.

i had similar surgery year ago in june My doc told me not to do anything risky for 6 months to allow full recovery 2 months seems a little soon but understand your eagerness to have some fun . I am not a doc so i would follow what advice he gave you every surgery and recovery time is different.

My friend had this surgery last Dec. He looked very funny this summer riding his lawn tractor with a helmet on but he is ready to go riding now.

I think the better question is do you want to have to do the surgery again? think your season is done.
I was scheduled to get my L4and L5 herniated disks lobed off with a laser in Oct. got some injections did some good .but could not stand the thought of missing a full season was planing an really f ing it up on a trip west and calling it a season and get the surgery then.last few weeks injections have been wearing off but I am holding off till I get 1 trip in mussel relaxers are my friend.
like the old saying goes if I knew I was going to make it this long I would have taken better care of my self.gets more and more true every yr.
being adrenaline junkies is hard on a guy after 30 or 40 yrs.

I have a sister-in-law that has had 3 major back surgery (one of them they worked on her from the front, flipped her over and worked from the back) She always pushed the limit before given the OK, would mess it up, put up with it for 1-2 yrs, get it fixed, do stupid things again-I think you get the story. If she could start over again, I guarantee she would listen to her Dr. Still in alot of pain-would imagine she has lots & lots of scare tissue.

Johnny Knox had back surgery on Monday & they don't think he will be ready in July & he has nothing to do but rehab since football is his livleyhood. Some surgeries work better than others my son inlaw still won't ride after his cage 5 years ago. Do what Doc says then let it rip. IMO
