Lake Gogebic Area

Friday, December 6th

Gogebic Area Grooming received new equipment this week and have been out breaking trails! We have cold temps and plenty of snow in the forecast – a great recipe for our early season riders!

Trails 13 North and South got hit yesterday! The drag went up 13 North and Marenisco’s Groomer went South on 13 breaking trails once more. Trail 100 and 102 also got hit yesterday.
Trail 8W between Bergland and Wakefield is wet as usual. If you cross the trail to the ditch, your going to swim..... Would advised only paddle track sleds to break trail at this time on 8W. Also if you ride the shoulder of the road, expect a ticket... We are going to try to break trail very soon.... We need some cold weather first to freeze it up and anticipate if should be in good shape by next weekend.
Trail 8E: is open but it sure is ride at your own risk!
Trail 102: there is a new reroute about 4 miles before trail 11. The trail is marked well and the reroute was a very nice turn out. (Temporary Re-Route)
Past the Root Cellar, there is more logging. You will have to travel on East Shore Rd approximately 2 mile further then before to get back onto trail 13. A new reroute will take place. Please follow the signs marked 13. (Permanent Re-Route for the 2019-2020 Season).
Trail 100: Logging is happening between Stagecouch Rd and the Slate River (very end of Lake Gogebic) Marshall Creek Bridge has been fixed so you can get to Marenisco from trail 100. (Permanent for 2019-2020 season)
Trail 1 from Trail 100 to Trail 8: Closed until further notice as logging is taking place until the end of December.
Looking forward to seeing everyone - and thanks for your support of Gogebic Area Grooming!

Trail 1 from Trail 100 to Trail 8: Closed until further notice as logging is taking place until the end of December.

Thanks for the continued updates, much appreciated.

DNR maps show a new trail 1 heading west from the Lodge and then north to trail 8 (hugging the USFS border). Is this something still in progress (ie DNR jumped gun posting) or is it open already?

Received over a foot of snow in the last day and still snowing. Groomers have been out breaking through all trails. 2 days of work on 1 S from Marenisco to Bergland on West Shore. Great effort and accomplishments. Still a few wet spots on 8w, but filling in. Riders all reporting good to excellent and nothing major to report at this time. Still loggin on 13S past Root Cellar and several re-routes that were reported at start of the season. Looking good on Lake Gogebic - Gogebic Area Groomers are on top of it for sure. We are looking forward to a great season! Happy Holidays!!!!

How's things around there? Can you ride the whole lake? Too slushy after warm up? How's the west side logging and reroute? East side trail?

The good news is - that we did not receive all the rain that was forecasted. But we did receive enough to wrech havoc for our groomers and riders. Received over a foot of snow yesterday which would have been much more welcomed had it not been for the w open water areas. It’s still snowing with temps in the high teens which could drop to single digits later today. Let’s hope. Snow is in the forecast daily with a significant (12-24”) forecasted for Jan 4-9.
Currently:
• Trail 1 N has some wet spots.
• Trail 8 between Bergland and Wakefield is CLOSED due to water on the trail. Advised not to ride this trail at all until it freezes. If heading west, take the West shore to Marenisco.
• Trail 13 North: groomed last night.
• Trail 8W groomed last night.
Most of all the trails have some type of water issues. Groomers are out now in Marenisco seeing what needs to be fixed. Use extreme caution while our guys assess and fix. Snow cover is making is more difficult to see water areas. Everyone is doing all they can – please do your part and be smart when out riding.

There’s a bunch of parties here on Lake Gogebic where you can spend New Years twice in two different time zones! Kick of the night on the North Shore and then head it down the lake for some live entertainment at the Gogebic Lodge! Wherever you go, however you get there – please be safe. The New Year is here and we don’t want anything happening to anyone! Look after each other and keep an eye out for anyone who may need assistance.

Also, please consider supporting the clubs where you ride – all these clubs with their groomers and volunteers are turning this white stuff into an amazing playground and it’s a huge effort!

From everyone here in the Lake Gogebic area – we wish you and yours a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Good morning! Winter weather advisory in affect in the Lake Gogebic Area and reports are wide ranged with regard to the amounts of snow we could get. Future forecast is looking good with cold temps and snow daily and groomers should be able to be out nightly for the remainder of the season.

Currently:

• Trail # 1N: Bergland to White Pine. This trail is being groomed nightly and is reported to be good to very good condition. Wet spots have been taken care of!

• Trail # 1S: South towards Marenisco from Trail # 8 (Ethelwood Grade). This trail was packed and groomed and in good condition. Wet spots have been filled in – still use caution.

• Trail # 1 South from Marenisco to Wisconsin Border: This trail is being groomed daily and is reported to be in good to very good condition.

• Trail # 8 East from Bergland to Ewen. This trail is being groomed daily and is reported in very good condition.

• Trail # 8: from Bergland to Wakefield is open and been groomed with two groomers and a drag went down last night. Holes have been filled in – still use caution and thanks to both GAG and GRTA for their efforts to get this fixed for use! Good condition.

• Trail 102 from Bergland to Trail #11, Has been packed down with just the groomer to fill in the wet spots. We will be out daily on this trail to get it back into shape. Good condition.

• Trail # 13 North from Bergland to 101: This trail is being groomed daily and is reported to be in very good condition. Only one semi wet spot but is being filled nightly.

• Trail # 13 south from Bergland to Root Cellar. This section of trail is 90% ridding on East Shore Road. Will advise when this can be opened up.

• As always, ride safe and enjoy our area. Please consider joining a club where you ride and feel free to send us any photos or comments about the trails!
