Lake Gogebic

Just a reminder, please be careful and use you’re good judgment while riding on Lake Gogebic this snowmobile season. As many know there are numerous dangers to be aware of. The poorly marked County Park Pier at the south end, the soft ice on the north end, ice heaves, three foot ice banks created from plowed ice roads, white outs, fish houses, and intoxicated riders just to name a few. Can't wait to hit the trails, have a safe snowmobile season, Paul.

Ride the lake first in the day time and take it slow. Once you know what is out there un cork it and have some fun. Ride safe

Ice heaves can happen it short order. I don't think you can say because it was safe in the morning it should be safe in the evening. I think its just as much fun to ride around the lake on the trail unless I am in a hurry....

And the trails around the lake are usually in very good condition as they get groomed regularly but low traffic due to so many sleds taking the lake.

You ain't kiddin'!! Our group met both of them last winter!!

Also, thanks for the reminder on the safety issues. It can be easy to get carried away out there.

WOW!
Tough subject.
I've ridden the lake many times. But I only do it during the day. Many things can go wrong out there, it's just not worth it. This is just my opinion but I'm still here to state it.
What ever you do, be carefull! Not just Gogebic but on any lake.

Good luck! Dave

One of my favorite areas to ride. It is a lot of fun. Ice heaves are scary though and they ought to rope off the areas that don't freeze over.

One thing to always remember about Gogebic is the outlet on the North East side of the lake. This area does not freeze solid. It seems every year, typically in bad weather, a group decides the best way to get to Bergland from the East side of the lake is to just ride near the shore line. This tactic takes them right into the open water. Be safe and wave as you go by.
