From the board of county commissioners
Commissioner Kevin Codere reported that the DNR plans to begin requesting bids for reconstruction of the Lake Linden trail this fall. The state is seeking a half-dozen contractors to tackle the various areas that were damaged in the 2018 Father’s Day Flood.

Anyone know what they've been waiting on? Sure... I know this was up in the air for years, but the official go on the repair was given a good while ago at this point (last fall or early this spring). Were they waiting on engineering to finish up or something?

Local newspaper article from March of this year:

Engineering work is about 90% complete for this year’s repair work on the Department of Natural Resources’s motorized Lake Linden trails, the DNR’s Upper Peninsula trails coordinator said.

This year’s projects will be bid out in six sections to make the work more manageable, Ron Yesney said.

“If we were to bid it in one package, there are only a couple contractors in the U.P. big enough to take it on,” he said in an email.

Bidding is hoped to be done in the spring or summer. Construction is expected to be done this fall. Some work will likely extend into 2023, Yesney said.

So more or less they are a year behind where they thought they'd be just a few months ago.

There are several hold-outs for culvert easements.

Torch Lake TWP Meeting Minutes....June 2022
Public Comment: Kevin Codere, the new Commissioner for our district gave us a report on some of the things the county will be spending the 6.8 million in ARPA funds. There will be money for roads, the Sheriff Department for body cameras, Schools for radios to communicate with law enforcement, transfer station new trucks, upgrade in vehicles for Sheriff dept. and other projects.
He also mentioned trail 3 for snowmobiling will not be done this year because of easement issues due the longer culverts causing issues with property owners. He also will be looking into blight issues in three townships. He also asked about the Lake Linden trail and asked that we consider a Resolution to help support getting the Lake Linden trail done to connect to other trails.
