Lake Nokomis is iced over!!

Chipped thru lake ice only 2" but good start for pre Thanksgiving. Whacked the ice hard with my pick on second thump & sent 200 foot+ crack sizzling across the ice which started to weep instantly... LOL... Said to myself "whoops Pete gently gently"....lol... That wlll wake ya up on a cold Nov afternoon.

I suspect another public announcement coming soon. "Do not go on the ice until it is deemed safe".

Already heard it here. Lots of people out ice fishing already. Mid-November.....must be global warming!

-10 this morning here..ice is forming. Single digits for lows for the next week. We could be able to ice fish by Tuesday.

Thats cold for pre-Thanksgiving. We had 14 for a low Saturday, Just enough to start skimming ponds over.

Any updates in this area??
Everything took a big hit over the weekend...we had 4-5 inches of ice in the bays on nokomis friday evening...not sure what the rain and warm did to the ice....but I lost all of my snow cover by sunday evening.....however...it got cold, and the area received 5-7 inches of snow yesterday...so it looks better again...at least for now

Wow, lost it all ayy. That sux, should make for a good icy base tho with the melt and the freeze and more snow? Hopefully it stays cold now, and keep the snow coming. Plan on coming up when trails open if conditions allow. Thanks for the update.
Drilled 4 holes in Spectacle Lake today 12" of hard ice had to lean hard on the auger really surprised how much ice is out there only 2" 10 days ago with rain & thaw as history now. Not sure about other Lakes in Vilas but some are very good & ready to ride right now.
