How late in the year have you rode your sled in the U.P.? I rode April 1st about 10 years ago, from Mass City north over one weekend. Just interested how long some guys can make the season.

First week of May 2006 we trailered up to Delaware (between Phoenix and Copper Harbor), rode about 15 miles and had to cross alot of creeks, but we can say we rode in May in MI!

Put on 4200 miles that winter and actually went to "most" of my classes, ha.

Have ridden alot of Easter weekends, the buffet at Mariner North is great, but not always the best plan if the trails are rough.

I believe back in 1973,...
the 2nd week in April,...
Easter Vacation. A bunch of us school buddies
rode out on the bay of Green Bay,... and had a
bonfire. That is the latest here in "cheeseland" I
can remember.
Rode into April up in the U.P a bunch of times.

U.P. Late Season Rides

If we have a normal snowfall through out the winter, we have had trips of 40 to 50 miles in
Mid-April. Not from the front door, but, a short trailer trip North & your off. The latest I can say personally was April 17th. Probably could have stretched it out a week-end or two more, but you do reach a point of enough is enough with late season riding.
The latest of riding right from the front door was April 7th 2007 when we got snowed on in epic proportions. Pic's below -Mezz

April 10th I think.

I've been able to get a ride in, in April, since 2004, hoping it happens this year, but it is not looking like it.:(

I remember once on May 15th opening day of walleye season I rode my sled on Chassell Bay because it was still frozen over...

a few years ago we were able to ride on April 15th in South Range. There was still plenty of snow, but the work schedule would not allow another ride. We are usually able to ride well into April

In the 70s or 80s, we got a call right before the Easter weekend in April from the guy that owned Pine Isle resort in Rhinelander that they had a dump of snow. We went up and made it all the way to Lake Tomahawk and back. I remember sledding along the garbage dump and getting Tide boxes caught in my studs.

Last year Dave and I rode May 1st. Thought it would be more of a "gimmick" ride just to say I rode in May, but ended up being a several hour ride in some pretty fun conditions.

I know that the gang have also told me that back in 1996 they rode Mothers Day, which I believe was may 18th.

My Sr. year of highschool we rode during spring break on April 5th. Oh I forgot to mention in was in Indiana. It snowed a foot over night so we rode from 5:00am til 10:00am, and by noon it was all gone.

Made it to tax day, April 15th in Northern Wisconsin a few years ago just north of Winter, WI.

As John said, it was more of a gimmick just to say I did, but there was about 15" in many spots that day, (Couple big late storms that year) ended up putting on about 25 miles in the woods in my shorts and t-shirt with tennis shoes in 55 degree weather!

Pics are in the "old" photo gallery.
