Leo Frigo Bridge Closed indefinitely (43 green bay - over fox river)

In my opinion, the remodeling of it was done terrible. Just an aweful surface. Expansion. Joints were poured too low. Asphalt meets it too high. Just a rough road.
But with that being said, I don't think anyone believes that caused this.
The pylon, pier sunk into the ground. It is all marsh there. I'm betting it will be a year or maybe much longer before it is all fixed.
Jmho.

If i'm not mistaken, their is an easy detour when they shut the bridge down in the winter I think? Just trying to plan for winter!

i agree ...this will be a major shut-down and so far they seem to be down playing or at least non forthcoming with the bad news of what a major repair is needed.

Take 172 around the south side of Green Bay from 43. Yes there is construction but 2 lanes open most of the time. The usual in work out of work times get a little busy but it still beats Chicago/Milwaukee traffic any day of the week.

Giving it a try this afternoon. Heading North.

When I used to head to The Keweenaw thru Milwaukee, Green Bay and Iron Mountain, I used to HATE going over that bridge. Can't explain it. But that bridge, in particular, always bothered me. Seeing that sinking pier, I may NEVER go across that bridge again. Just sayin....

For members and guests from outside the area, here's a link with some history of the bridge.

We've used it a couple times a year on our treks to Door County and on a windy day you can really feel it up there. And I gotta give cudo's to the first guy across, in the dark, 65 mph, launching into a 400 foot sag with an empty semi. Time for new undies!

OK, just for the record let me state that I am a Packer fan, but had to pass this along:

What do the Louis Frigo bridge and the Packers have in common?

They're both sinking early in the season!

Don't hate me....

Went through there around 4:30pm yesterday.
I took 172 to 41. It was solid traffic but moving. Saw a couple of news crews filming the traffic. The off ramp to 41 from 172 is all tore up. So is all of 41 for another massive construction. Hope the road does not sink ;).
Over all it was an ok detour and would recommend this route.

Saw on the new the other day..... they are talking about January being the reopening.
Crews have been hitting it hard. I am sure plenty of OT.
Some thing like another 20 million.

Every inch of interstate i that area is tore up under construction.

Yup, they're working round the clock. 12 hr shifts. Only day off is for Christmas. Wonder how many guys will be "sick" this Saturday for deer hunting. Lol.
The company also gets bonus for everyday done early. Rember that next time drive over it. :)

came from the east side of Green bay on 172 West tonight on way home about 515pm. the ramp getting on HWY 41 north is always at a stand still at this time of night. Had right lane and center lane at a stand still tonight, as Semi was stopped in middle lane trying to get in right. just need to slow down.

Zenith Tech will do a great job getting the bridge reopened. I had them this summer building two new bridges on 94 in Kenosha. Outstanding contractor that cares about a quality product.

Isn't it amazing how a really good company is hired to "fix" something after the fact at a "whatever it takes attitude", but the money never seems to be there to do it right in the beginning.
