For us south eastern and central Wisconsinites lets hope this moisture pattern keeps up for winter, so we can finally have a winter worth having.

I'm all for that. I haven't rode that area for 10 or 15 years. Like new areas to ride. Been the same trips forever it seems like.

I would love to be able to hit southern wisconsin riding again. When they get the snow it can be some really fun riding thats a lot closer. Makes for a great one or two day get away!

X 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yea on that!!! Lets not forget the south western, and western Wis!!!!2008 as I remember was the last decent year/snow season for that area??? The wife and I made 3, or 4 trips to Richland Center, Viroque, Sparta, BFR areas. Short travel to get there, and so much enjoy the riding there!!! However, we no longer will ride, or stay/lodge in areas where they allow ATV/UTV's on the snowmobile trails. They will not get any money from us noway. None.

I've posted this before but thought it timely for this thread...

One year, a young Ojibwa boy was given the task of ensuring the entire village had enough wood for winter. This was the first time he had been given such an honor and he wanted to do it right. Before he went to work he decided to call the weatherman to ask what kind of a winter was to be expected. The weather man told him it was going to be a warm and uneventful winter. The boy thought to himself, ‘this is great. I won’t have to work too hard and I’ll be able to look good in front of the whole tribe.’
Just to be safe, he gathered a few of his friends and they went to work for a week. At the end of the week, after chopping and piling the wood, the boy decided to give the weatherman a second call. The weatherman told him it was going to be a very cold winter. Shocked at this sudden change and not wanting to disappoint the elders of his village, he gathered more of his friends and they went to work. For two weeks they cut and piled wood, hoping that it would be enough to last the whole winter.
Once again the boy called the weatherman and this time the weatherman told him, “Son, its going to be a very bitter, cold and long winter. Maybe the worst winter on record.”
Exasperated, the boy had to ask, “What makes you say that sir?”

The weatherman replies, “The Indians are gathering wood like crazy!”

yes old abe south western and western also, didn't mean to leave those areas out, I cant remember when the last time I rode around here was, and when the opportunity arose you only had a couple days to do so and the trails were done. Im just hoping we may finally have a good old fashioned winter one of these years. I have never rode in western Wisconsin but always wanted to around Dodgeville/mineral point area, seems like it would be a good scenic area to ride.

I just told my neighbor yesterday I hope I can complain this winter about too much snow as I did about the rain this summer!!!! We are definitely due in the southern half of the state for some epic snows!!! Plus I need to make the Northwoods buds travel a few miles for once to find snow!!! LOL!

The current wet pattern will stay and it will rain all winter! It sure would be nice for southern and central Wi to get a decent season. Its been several years now.

Every year, my goal is to ride the southwestern portion of the state, hasn't happened yet. Terrain looks interesting!

I wonder how many bridges have washed out in these areas? It does not look good from La Cosse to Middleton on hwy 14 in most places.

any areas of that part of the state you would recommend more than others? are there public drop areas around there?

Black River Falls has some really nice trails in the state forest but you do run a risk of getting some really rutted up atv trails. Go further west towards lacrosse and you get into bluff country. I'm sure Wisconsin side is similar, but I always hear good things about winona, MN. Public drops are all over, just have to find snow. Or ask business owner if they will let you park in exchange for buying gas, food, etc.

I spent a couple days staying in Waumandee about a month ago, and there are trails all over - hoping I can get over that way this year.
