Yes, it is a good place to get the weather and web cams to see for yourself what's it like out there. The big news in the U.P. right now is the exploding covid cases. Houghton County is at 392.9 daily cases per million as of Sept 20th. The worst by far in MI. The Governor is threatening to move the U.P. back to phase 3 if you naughty guys and gals don't wear your masks. Covid cases are showing up in the schools daily. Escanaba High School just closed to in person classes until Oct 12th.

Take Governor Whitmer's warning seriously.

Midwest player what does that number even mean? There are only 311,361 people in the UP as of 2010 census so how do you do the math to figure 392.9 per million just in houghton county what does that equal in real numbers? Quick google search says 35684 population in houghton county now that number does not reflect MTU students which is about 7300 students so total about 43000. Can you do the real math and tell us how many people that really re testing.

Today the U.P. set another all time high of 93 cases of covid. Since the population of the U.P. is so low, when you convert those cases to daily cases per million they really stand out. They do this as a way to compare apples to apples. Right now Houghton County has a total of 336 cases of covid. It has just over taken Marquette County as the worst county for covid in the U.P.

Play with this map and click on the counties in the U.P. When you look at cases per million the numbers get scary. You can check out all the areas in the state and Houghton county is the worst on a cases per million basis.

If there is any good news it appears the covid on MI Tech campus is starting to decrease, but it is to late. It has spread to the community and is now in the schools. Watch this site to see how Tech is doing.

The Western U.P. Health Dept just closed all Houghton County Schools.

How many people are actually sick? My cousin works in the lab at a local hospital. She said they sent 50 unused covid tests in to be tested. Unused tests. All came back positive. Or my my friends Niece who thought she had symptoms and called the hospital. They said come in and get tested. She got to the drive through test lane and there were 8 cars infront of her. She left and went back home untested. 2 days later she got the call from the hospital that she had tested positive.... Its all about the money baaby and the hospitals get paid for each positive test!!

Edit: I fell into the trap of the Troll known as MP.... She takes a good hearted thread like this one and turns it into crap shoot. I will be better. Blocking her right now!

I agree with that, just think, had we NOT closed everything down, we'd probably have this all behind us already! But nooooo, keep on kicking it down the road. This will go down as the longest flu season in history.

Why does this guy have to ruin every positive thread?????

I started this thread to give us a place to post positive comments but I knew it wouldn't take too long for some of the "Negative Nellie's" to chime in.

No big deal to me if they can't resist the temptation to spew their views here and try to build up their self esteem. Good for them.

Ever wonder why they don't start their own threads to talk about their agendas but instead chime in on threads that have nothing to do with their agendas?

I generally don't waste my time and effort to comment to them and just try and take the high road and follow the advice of someone who I admire:

The weather is starting to turn the corner this coming week and it shouldn't be too long before all of us winter lovers will be looking at scenes like this in the Yoop...
