Well I went out riding today and had a blast on my Mountain Cat in the woods and on the trails. But what I didn't enjoy was having to wrestle that thing around all day. I started doing some research on lighter weight stuff for it and came up with a few things, maybe you guys could chime in and give some advice. The sled in question is an 01 Mountain cat 800 with carbs. Currently stock save for a hot dogger. (No, the hot dogger is not coming off to save weight!)
1. Take out the hood foam. This seems like a fine idea, I don't think it would make a ton of noise difference at speed. For those that have done it, where did you end up putting heat tape to replace the foam? Right were the foam was or just over the pipe?
2. Lighter A arms. I looked at fabcraft ones mostly. I think I would try to buy some used, they are $500 new. Any other brands that people like?
3. Lighter can. This could save me some weight, but are any of them lighter and still quiet? Having a loud muffler would be fun for about a day.
4. New aircleaners. I would assume that changing out the airbox for a pair of K+Ns would also mean a jet change. Is this straight forward or do you have to play around to get things right?
Let me know what you think about some of these things along with other suggestions, I would sure appreciate it.
