My hometown is Rome, NY known as the city of American History. Ft. Stanwix was constructed there in 1758 and was know as the fort
that never surrendered during the Revolutionary Was. The American Flag was first flown in battle there. Francis Bellamy wrote "The Pledge of Allegiance" in 1892 while living in Rome.
The city is located about 40 miles ENE of Syracuse, NY and average snowfall is around 115"/yr.

Peshtigo, WI

Peshtigo, WI.

City re-built from the ashes of the deadliest fire in American History.

Note: the following lines were taken from the book "Firestorm at Peshtigo"
written by Denise Gess and William Lutz.
"On October 8, 1871, a tornado of fire more than 1,000 feet high and 5 miles wide
ripped through the town of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, destroying over 2,400 square miles
of forest and killing more than 2,200 people. On the same day,.. 262 miles to the South,
300 people died in the highly publicized Chicago fire."

Also home to BPM (formerly Badger Paper Mills): Makers of Specialized papers.
ie: Dentine gum wrappers, Burger king hamburger wrappers,...ect. and a high quality printing paper.

Also home to Goodrich mfg.: No. 1 maker of airline seats

Also home of Sentinel Structures: Laminated wood arches and beams manufacturer. Also made
all the restoration wood parts for the U.S.S. Constitution.

Also the TV Home of Caroline from "Caroline in the City": A sitcom that aired from Sept. 1995 to
April of 1999. Starring Lea Thompson.
It was wierd seeing "local" things on a Nationally televised program aired weekly. ie: Peshtigo Bulldog
apparell,...shirts with Peshtigo on it,... shots from around the area. City was around 2700 people when I was growing up,.... but now has around 4,000.

Also home of ME!: Future Grammy Award winning songwriter,....
(Hey! a guy can dream can't he??)
:)

Peshtigo does have a pretty cool Fire Museum,.... if ya ever get to this area, your should visit!
and a Very Large Harley Davidson Dealership.

Though my "Home town" may not be "famous" for anything, it once was part of the largest copper mining operations in the Keweenaw. The Calumet & Hecla Mining Co. which had one of the largest stamp mill operations which was located in Tamarack City formerly known as Tamarack Mills.
The Keweenaw, specifically Houghton, is the birth place of Professional Hockey.-Mezz
