Little project I did this week

I do mine different the most people I use crushed limestone as a base I don't like using sand. limestone sets up almost like concrete plus if it rain in the middle of your project your grade won't be messed up it don't matter if it's driveway or patio I still use limestone. As for my old equipment no don't have it anymore I had to buy all the hand tools over again and I hired somebody to come in and rip out the old driveways and do the rough grade. Which the guy did a really good job I'll use him again for sure.

So you only use limestone? Do you put in a base of road stone compacted, then the limestone over the top? I'm just wondering how thick of a base you used since you were doing a driveway as compared to a patio or walkway.

well this driveway had a really nice base of road gravel so we just dug it down a few inches and added about about 6in of limestone fines. Now to answer your question about the differents between a driveway and a patio. Patio I dig about 12-15 inches down fill with limestone fines. Driveway 15-24 inches down bring it up to almost grade with 1 inch limestone with fines then do the final grade with limestone fines. Now that's if you find pretty good ground if you find clay packets in there your gonna have to go deeper.

Nice cutting.
Glad to hear that you are putting down the deep base. I have seen neighbors re-do their driveways quite often. We have clay from cutting into hillsides. It is difficult to do pavers.

I have about 5k sq ft of patio done with pavers. Let's just say that I have a lot of class 5 limestone.

I'm curious about the limestone fines. I used 1" sand on top of the base and under the pavers. It is a setup very prone to ants and their love of digging the sand away from under the pavers.

I've never had a problem with ants using limestone.I like to wet it while compacting it so it makes it like concrete.
