Roadhouse 139 in Long Lake or whitetail in Tipler with gas on site are pretty much your best choices.

Thanks, Phelps Trails were bombed out just about unrideable not grooming Saturday or Sunday prime riding hours. I was able to bail out on FRs divert to Amasa MI for lunch where the groom was pristine. I will try again Wednesday to get east on Phelps 6 hook up with Brule system. I was told 7 hour ride from Phelps gas station to Sand Lake Pub. I was on some of that and conditions were indeed horrible! I don’t know how long it will take Phelps Trails to heal will need multiple grooming that BAD. If riding to Phelps have a contingency plan to bail out to a neighboring trail system don’t get trapped as many did on Sunday.

Good report whitedust! Hard to believe now that they have good snow? Why? No want, or no effort?

Wow, 7 hrs to Sand Lake, a guy could walk it faster! You should be good when you hit Three Lakes / Brule River Trails. Regular grooming schedule 4 to 5 times per week. Easy cruise to Long Lake.

Thanks happy to hear Brule is good always been good for me if I can get to it. Lol I know Phelps Club is having personel problems but these trail conditions were darn near impossible for prime riding hours all day Sunday. For those of you that don’t know Phelps Club got very old in the tooth just physically can’t do what is necessary any longer. They are talking about disbanding which would mean merging their assets with another club. I believe it is coming to a head this season and a decesion will be made. 80plus year old members had a good run I saw Phelps gradually slip from First to worst over the last 15 years but too much to expect now from the seniors.

This is sad to hear of whitedust! But this is going to heard more often, more likely. Sad, but so it is. Hopefully they can figure away to resolve this.

The Phelps Club tried to recruit help from the fire department which I thought was a good idea. I talked to some of the firemen but just too busy with life to take on responsibility of a snowmobile club. Might be able to merge with a couple of local clubs. Frosty would be my choice a good solid president that understands Phelps and a young group of officers. I don’t know much about Conover but do a good job grooming their trails. Another possibility is Brule which is 3 lakes has remote groomers in Alvin/Nelma maybe they could help but 3 lakes already has many miles to groom. I’m hopeful for the future of a merge.

I totally agree with you on the Frosty Club @ Conover! Been a class act since I can remember. Very good group. Three Lakes also have a top notch record.

I think I would cross Three Lakes off the list. Aquisition of the Brule River piece pretty well maxxed us out from a labor standpoint. It would also add Vilas as a third county to deal with in addition to Oneida and Forest which is actually a big consideration. My guess is the Vilas Alliance will get something figured out with neighboring clubs.

I understand this is your area, and you have a vested interest, but your complaints have been duly noted over the last several years. If nobody steps up, the old guard has nowhere to pass the batton. Perhaps you should consider taking over exec management of the club, for all the criticism you recite. Not trying to be offensive, I'm just saying if it's so important to you, then offer your services and save the club. I'm sure they'd welcome you. As others have said, I predict this will become more common place in lower traffic, outlying areas in future years. I presumed this ridculously annoying trail pass process would've solved all these problems. (sarcasm)

I agree 3lakes has a lot to groom already but when I ride the trails it’s easy to consider giving trail 17 to Eagle River 6 to Conover and or Lando then bring the Brule groomers west to maybe sand Lake. It’s the 6 e trail from Phelps town to the Brule system that is remote and quite a distance from the folks in Lando or Conover. You’re right they all need to get together and see what makes sense to each club. I would assume some of the equipment would be still housed in Phelps just like 3lakes does for the Brule system for Alma/Nelma. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I need to ride from Phelps so yes it is important to me. I’m no Spring chicken either so I’m not the solution way over my pay scale and years too. I’m more than happy to help do what I can and have tried to enlighten them regarding communication to the outside world. Phelps is entrenched in old ways of doing things just the way they are. I’m very encouraged they see the need to merge as very realistic way to turn the club around. Status quo will do nothing but degrade trails. There is no young group of leaders going to help it’s beyond that and a merge is the best for snowmobiling.

Is that even 15 miles by trail?

Found out more details power line was down towards Sand Lake Pub so riders were stacked up quite the mess couldn’t get around. The trail was a bomb blasted ruff when I went thru yeah bad but 7 hours from station to Sand Lake Pub is understandable now. A tree was down towards Conver trails too so many were boxed in this weekend.

I have to agree with Cirrus, the new, convoluted trail pass process didn't solve this problem? Hmmmm? And imo, it never will. I have tried to obtain club membership numbers prior to, and after the change in process with no luck? There just isn't the "same kind of interest" in snowmobiling as there used to be. It's a different mind set today. Sad, but so it is.
