Long Lake WI Help

I have to agree with Cirrus, the new, convoluted trail pass process didn't solve this problem? Hmmmm? And imo, it never will. I have tried to obtain club membership numbers prior to, and after the change in process with no luck? There just isn't the "same kind of interest" in snowmobiling as there used to be. It's a different mind set today. Sad, but so it is.
Capstep is what the AWSC wanted finally got it passed thru Walker. I have no idea what Evers thinks?

I just would like to know how it effected club membership numbers. Just curious if it had the effect on membership that it was intended to? There surely is no intent to change the process again is there? Sheesh?

Not that I know about.

I understand this is your area, and you have a vested interest, but your complaints have been duly noted over the last several years. If nobody steps up, the old guard has nowhere to pass the batton. Perhaps you should consider taking over exec management of the club, for all the criticism you recite. Not trying to be offensive, I'm just saying if it's so important to you, then offer your services and save the club. I'm sure they'd welcome you. As others have said, I predict this will become more common place in lower traffic, outlying areas in future years. I presumed this ridculously annoying trail pass process would've solved all these problems. (sarcasm)

I know Pete (Whitedust) and read his response, but knowing him I think he left something out and Pete...correct me if I'm wrong...but if the only position was President or the leader of the club that was missing/lacking you would possibly help out temporarily or at least would help them get back on their feet again. From what I understand it isn't just the leadership position that is lacking but the rest of the members, groomer drivers, etc.. Seems like filling one position isn't going to fix the problem. I can understand retired men and women being tired and not wanting to commit to too much during the winter or anytime of the year for that matter. I would guess its the same issue that is discussed on JD all the time and that is younger member interest. It's definitely a tough subject and I for sure don't have the answer. I'm not retirement age by any means but I'm already tired :fatigue:

Yes you are correct the aging problem in this case is the entire club and their human resources are diminished. As said I would help if I thought I could help and knew 5-6 younger folks that wanted to come in and help. Unfortunately Phelps doesn’t have those younger people with interest and after high school it’s either the military or college and few come back to live in Phelps. It’s a difficult situation to say the least. Imo merging with help from the Vilas Alliance makes a lot of sense for Phelps. If a merge happens I’m totally in to help with that and I’m already a Lando member if they absorb some of Phelps trail responsibilities. Just have to wait and see imo.

Was in Minocqua this weekend. Heard to stay clear of Phelps and Conover and listened to that advice. Sunday we were in Sugar Camp, Three Lakes, Lake Tomahawk, Nakomis, Willow Flowage, Eagle River, and St. Germain. Worst was right in Minocqua. Then a little rough around Eagle River. The rest was good to beautiful in Three Lakes and Minocqua Forest Riders area.

OK you guys have finally caught up with my concerns about cap-step as I saw from conception. I was the only one to bring up questions at our meetings.
At our Feb.,2019 meeting, I looked up for a moment from what I was doing at the board member table and saw about 10 faces looking back....guess who they were.....the same 10 regulars I can set a watch by at our monthly meetings....We get a great show of guys at trails in (lunch), trails out (lunch), Christmas Party(major lunch) and reimbursement day for attending a club trip ....LOL...follow the money.

On a funny note, I rode with some new guys this weekend and asked one of the guys if he belonged to our club....he said no...I asked if he was a club member at all...he said no. I then said, so you paid full price for the trail permit on your sled...he said yes....so I thanked him.

Responding to a couple of comments back, I'm not sure why you'd avoid Conover as they have some of the best groomed/cared for trails around. 2 weeks ago they were very good-excellent, and that was 20+ inches ago.
As for club help, when I'm set free from jail/manufacturing in Aug., I'll be reaching out to the Sno-Eagles to help prep trails in fall, with chainsaw in hand. I'll attend meetings. The wife likes the social side, so that may get her involved somehow.
Not sure how much longer I'll be active, but as long as I am, I'll help.

What is everyone's problem with the trail passes? Serious question what's it hurting? Obviously it's not going to help every club but how is it hurting them? We saw a large increase in workday/brushing help which is one of the main problems aging clubs face.

Was planning on taking this trail on Thursday to get to Lando. Do you think I should be taking an alternate or should it be good for Thursday afternoon.

I read over on the "official Wisconsin snowmobile enthusiast" Facebook page that the groomer operator that covers that area had a stroke last week and that is why it was not groomed. True or not I don't know... Facebook...
We stayed at Maple View in Conover this weekend and road down to ER over to Sayner (Weber's), over to Burnt Bridge for a huge pretzel and back to Maple view Friday night and the trails were great. Saturday we went down to ER for Breakfast up to Conover for Blizzard Blast ( we had our 6year old with). Left Conover went up to Lando back to Lac Vieux Desert and stopped at Thunder Bay Lodge for a soda. Trails were great to this point. Thunder Bay to Phelps was horrible. Great Supper at Northern Exposure and then the ride back to Maple view was great. Overall great trails other than the one stretch and very little traffic Saturday afternoon.

Yep Thunder Bay to Northern Exposure is Phelps 6 and 17 both were horrible on Saturday worse on Sunday. Very possible someone had a stroke certainly old enough to suffer a stroke. I haven’t heard about anyone having a stoke but I didn’t ask that question either. I’ll have a ride on most Phelps trails Wednesday and been told everything has been groomed. However trails were so torn up this weekend I’ll need to witness myself trails have been healed. Sometimes it takes multiple groomings to heal trails when so severely bombed out. I’m hoping for goodish.

Yes, I heard not really a "club issue" but rather multiple medical issues have set them back big time.

Very possible a few years back a bag trip was canceled due to medical issues. It was a long list of surgeries or recovering from surgeries everything from knee replacements to carpel tunnel surgery. It was like the walking wounded. I know one long time board member died of cancer a couple of years ago as well. It’s a hurtin group for sure.
