u dont have to remove u get a 25 yr Leese with the army core of engineers.
and it is on the nat registry of historical land marks so u can almost guarantee never ending renewals. it this point it has to be cheaper than a slip at a local marina

? I would assume that break water drops fast cant see why a guy could not drop 3 pylons down and put 30ft of dock parallel to breakwater.
but like anything with the government involved it would prob require 785 pages of red tape and 2 yrs of calls

some real cool light houses in CT on auction now stuff like a mi out to sea.
but more important GSA has been dumping old radar stations lately.
my guess the UP radar station has to be on the to be sold list. no one has used it in what ?30 yrs.
sled clubs in the area should be being proactive on acquiring that site.
if the fed wont give it up for free to a club they would prob give control to state for rec use. state would prob be more willing to take it on if clubs had contract in place for maintnance

So, I skimmed that entire document, the notice to bidders. All I can say is wow. Sounds like you could build something inside of it, but I don't know if you could make a 'residence' out of it. And it would all have to be approved by uncle sam. No thanks. I wonder who is the current bidder?? City of Manistique maybe...it is a point of interest for their town.

I have followed a few of the light houses GSA has sold in the past few yrs.
a few people have started a non profit corp for the property.
they get donations and labor to restore these things in exchange for weekend rooms and what not.
looks like some of these things out east are bringing in big money donations for the restoration.
most are doing them like a B&B.
the MI house is not one of the old elaborate traditional houses but would still make a sweet cabin.

Kinda hope the city got it, it needs alot more than just a coat of paint, the cement in the break wall starts quite a way's out you have to walk on boulder sized rocks to get to the break wall, wouldn't want to do it in a winter storm thats for sure.
