There is nothing I can say to take the pain away or make things better for you, its a very sad time and only time and happy memories will heal that. The love a dog is like no other, they are always their for you and love you no matter what. Just remember he is in a good place and all the joy and love he brought you and your family.

Sorry to read of your loss of a great friend & companion Gary.
It's never easy as we all know. Had to put one of ours down a few months back.

May Birkie rest in peace. May the memories of her live on forever.

Thank you for sharing your story with all of us.

Gary,

So very sorry for your loss. A very moving story/tribute you wrote. The phrase "man's (woman, child, family)'s best friend" can be so completely accurate sometimes. I had to help my wife put to rest a family dog years ago and it broke my heart to watch and go through that process. And it wasn't even my pet. But it was time for the poor guy.

Cherish all the fond memories with your "buddy" and always remember all the fun and pure joy you each gave to each other. Time will help with the loss and sadness.

Sorry once again for your loss.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement and comments. As I've said, many of you have been through this and have stories to tell, Kip I can't believe what you went through in those 7 months, but while our animals are gone, we all have great memories that live on. I consider it a privilege that she lived with us for over 9 years, which is long for such a large dog. She came along at the perfect time, and now we will begin a new chapter in life.

It was great to hear from so many of you, and now if any you hear of the Birkie being run between Cable and Hayward in mid February, hopefully you'll remember a great looking Saint Bernard that loved to run through the snow and enjoyed winter as much as those of us addicted to this site do as well.
