M10 Removal/Install

I have a '04 Polaris 600 XCSP with an M10 suspension, and I find that removing the skid frame & re-installing it is very difficult, unlike a normal stock Polaris suspension where you can easily release the pressure of the rear shock by releasing the torsion springs on either side. The M10 does not have this "quick" release. What I've done in the past is complicated and time consuming. Anyone have a quick method?

I've only taken mine out once, since I just bought the sled (99 SKS 136" M-10), but I found that you have to compress that rear spring as much as possible, all the way down to the rails to give you the maximum clearance for the track.

A couple ratchet straps, alternating them as you go, to get it compressed to the rails is what I did. It is definately more of a challenge than your typical Polaris suspension.

I have had mine in and out quite a few times and just use one rachet strap, I only compress it enough to get clearence, I go around the upper shaft and down to the inside idler wheel shaft and hook the hooks of the strap together so it make a loop

As Bradzoo said, I just found my ratchet straps didn't compress it enough before "binding" due to the amount of strap wrapped around the spooler on the strap.

Indy, that won't work with the M-10's.

Thanks all for your reply's. What you've been doing is what I've been doing too. I was hoping for yet an easier way. If anyone comes up with something different please reply to this post. Thanks again.

unbolt the shocks from the upper mount and disconnect the limiter strap, it will come out easy. Once back in bolt the shocks back up and reconnect the limiter strap. To disconnect the limiter strap put a 4x4 under the front of the track, may need someone to sit on sled that will take the pressure off and allow you to unbolt it, hook back up the same way.

You can actually remove the shocks from this skid without pulling it out if that is what you are trying to do.

I have the same sled/skid hope this helps.

I have no idea how you could possibly get that front shock off and out of the suspension without removing the entire suspention. Do you have a special spring compression tool?

No tools required but a 9/16 to remove the mounting bolt. Removed both of my shocks without pulling the skid this spring, 04 XCSP w/pooM10.

I removed just the shocks this year for service as my Hifax were still good, as said earlier disconnect the limiter strap, the fun part of this is getting the rear shock spring off and on, be prepaired most shops will chage an extra fee for this and if you do it yourself be careful

Ok, I just took a quick look, removing the limiter straps takes all the pressure off that front shock/spring and you can get them out that way? If so, cool, good to know. Guess I didn't look at that right the first time.

i put a rear shock into an xtra-10 without removing the suspension, woulda been a lot easier to just remove it though.

The Poo M10 is actually the only skid that you can easily remove the shocks from without pulling it. Yes the rear spring is a bear, I pony up the 5 bucks and let the shock guy remove it. The extra weight for shipping isn't that big of a deal.
